Proud day

Yesterday was a pretty crazy day. We attended our daughter's graduation and there was so many people. The graduation was held at BYU and there were three high school graduations scheduled there for the day along with a couple sporting events. Traffic was insane there and it took forever to go anywhere.

Her school had nearly 1000 students graduating and it took a very long time for them to call her name since she was one of the last to walk and get her diploma. I am glad that they had jumbo screens so we could get close up shots of her as she got her diploma.

It was so cool to see her surrounded by all her friends and family. Her and her friends have been through so much over the past couple years and I am so glad that they have all been able to help each other through their trials.

She has some really amazing friends and they have all taught each other so much.

It has been pretty weird in our home over the past week. Our daughter started moving out last week and she has pretty much finished moving all of her stuff to her new apartment.

My wife and I are trying to adjust to a new routine of just us and it is pretty cool. We never really got much time over the last 22 years together to just be the two of us, so we are pretty excited.

Before we moved into the home we are in right now, I had never lived anywhere for more than 3 years. As our daughter was packing her room, we realized how many memories that we have made in our home. We have been here in this house for about 8 years now and it really has been such a great home for our family.

We have decided that we are not going to move anywhere and we are just going to make our home a place for our family to come visit and continue to make memories in. We are excited to have play rooms for the grandkids and bedrooms for visitors to stay in. This summer, I will be busy tearing out the old carpet and putting in hardwood floors. This next chapter for our family is going to be pretty fun.

It will come a lot faster than you expect. It's a very odd feeling to know that we have raised two children into adulthood. Now we are planning big kid get togethers.

Family support means a lot. It's maybe the most powerful intrinsic and extrinsic stimulus for those of us who are more blessed than others. Wishing you and your family sunny days ahead!

Congratulations, man! The graduation photos are great, such days are always a source of pride. Your last family photo is my favorite! When you live 8 years in the same house you really make a lot of memories there. I hope you never leave because it can be very difficult.

Thanks. We aren’t planning on going anywhere for a while now. It’s gonna be cool to customize our house and make it what we want.

Definitely proud moments for parents. It is true that when we relocate our home we leave too many good old memories behind. Let all your dreams become true.

Congrats to your daughter. Is there a topic or direction in which the students are graduating or the "specific topic" is usually chosen afterwards?

@derangedvisions Awesome. It is indeed a proud feeling when the child graduates. As you have rightly pointed out, it does mean that the bird is going to fly away and the nest feels a bit empty. However, as you mention, there are so many memories there that we continue there and make it home forever. My wife and I have been through a similar experience and can relate very much to the feelings you have articulated so well.

PS - Sorry for the cliche bird and nest metaphor but since I do wildlife photography, it kind of pops in my head all the time. 😀
