Waterton Lakeside Views

DSC07926.jpeg

When ones thinks of Waterton Park, Alberta, often the iconic Prince of Wales hotel likely comes up in the conversation. Perched up top here, overlooking the lake; it is an unforgettable sight. It was a particularly beautiful hot day to be by the lakeside, and for a mid-summer’s day (and peak season), tourists were few and far between surprisingly. Now with all the tariff talk as of late, it does appear that the average person will not be travelling south, but instead will be vacationing within Canada or anywhere but the US. Likely this shoreline will be packed with people this coming summer.

When I worked at Silverwood Theme Park, only about 90 miles south of the border. I remember a lot of Canadians visiting. At one point, the US and Canadian dollar were close enough to parity for the policy to accept them at face value, 1:1. However, I never had anyone pay me in colorful Canadian bills or Loonies/Toonies. I wonder how much this trade kerfuffle will affect them.

There's somehting about that hotel on the ridge with no natural trees or man-made landscaping I find unsettling. It looks naked, maybe. Or at least out of place without anything to tie to to the landscape. I don't think the problem lies in the style itself.

It is sort of peculiar yes. Even before visiting for the first time, this "hotel" in the middle of nowhere was a curiosity and I felt compelled to see what is was all about. Although it is very photogenic, the hotel itself was underwhelming and somewhat rundown.

I have a 400mm, but really don't use much, especially when on hike. It is really too big and bulky.

That first zoomed in shot was amazing. I saw how far the picture of the house from the other pictures.
So why would they vacation anywhere other than the US?

Lots of Canadians are upset with the "tariff war" with the US at the moment. Myself, if I wanna go south to the US, I will go, tariff war or no tariff war.

Well, there's nothing they can do, and boycotting the US won't desuade Trump. The man is stubborn and wants what he wants.

Sounds like it will be packed this summer! Great pictures of the lodge and mountains, I kind of like the last one most in both color and mono, the bit of a haze adds a nice effect. Looks like a nice place with some nice colored water.

Is today going to be stamp day?

I think I'll skip Stamp Sunday, and save it for next week. Still have so many photos to get out from last year.

The prince of wales hotel would be a great place to lodge in considering the location at the lakeside. I love water fronts and the pleasure the sight brings. The lake side view is beautiful
