Lume Cube lights + iPhone 14 Pro Max = Epic self-portrait photography

It's honestly crazy how big a difference your equipment can make when capturing photos. Even if you aren't using expensive professional gear, you can still make a lot of great things happen if you know what you are doing.
I tend to keep things pretty simple when taking photos of myself. I find a spot in my small apartment and try to create some sort of unique mood with the use of multiple external light sources. I prefer to do this at night so that I don't have to worry about natural light altering my scene. However, as you will see in the photos today, I can for sure figure out how to make daylight hours work too.
My main goal was to capture the natural color of my eyes. Some photos did a better job of doing that than others. A few of them nailed that goal to perfection. Some of the best shots out of this bunch were taken while I was holding the two lights in my hands, which you probably wouldn't have guessed due to the way that I framed them. I always use a timer and tripod for my iPhone to make sure a quality image is captured. All of this together enables the potential to turn a boring selfie into an expressive photograph.
I certainly never had highly detailed photos like this of myself when I was younger. Affordable cameras were just so underpowered back when I was a child. Even the DSLR that I have pales in comparison to my iPhone 14 Pro Max. We are so lucky to have such amazing technology in our pockets. Some like to say technology is bad for humanity, but I like to focus on all of the positive things it has added to our lives.
I first discovered that I enjoyed photography in one of my final years of high school. I had an art class that felt like a joke to start, but then realized how passionate the teacher was. She always encouraged me and truly made me think that I had some potential to be creative. I had never thought of myself that way until that class. I can't even recall the teacher's name, but I can see her face in my mind still.
Clearly, I've gotten used to having a bald head. I mean damn it looks pretty normal to me now that I've had it that way for several months. All focus is on my eyes and beard now. Well unless you are an eyebrow aficionado, then there is plenty to enjoy there too.
That's enough talk about me and my hobby of photography. As often as I do posts like this, you can expect more photos of my smug mug in the near future.

Yes obviously your goal of capturing your natural eye colour has been accomplished by some of the photos. Nailed ❣️❣️
Thank you iPhone and lights... and whoever it was that designed me to give me these eyes.
And your eyes are attention captivating
I like this lighting setup, I think it would look pretty dope on some video shorts actually. Some chatter around the space about making more of these, definitely something you'd look goood in.
Is there already support for shorts on Liketu? I've considered making a second account so I could post shorts because I've recently started making them and have dozens upon dozens saved up. I thought only 3Speak had shorts as of right now though. Then again, I guess I could just post them on this account and not reblog them.
No, we're not going to do shorts like 3speak, they do a fine job there. We have had talks on sharing infrastructure to get them on liketu, but I was just thinking in general about short videos outside of Hive to bring people in. We have a lot of interesting characters with strong personalities - you are one! - and I think getting more content into the tradsoc sphere to attract people to the Hive ecosystem would be great!
That would be nice to be able to share 3Speak’s infrastructure within Liketu.
But I see what you’re saying, posting shorts on places like YT, TikTok, and IG so that people may see them and make their way into the world of Hive.
The shorts I've been making have nothing to do with Hive so far Mostly just dancing like a mad man to dubstep and showing off my AI art creations. I find it difficult to imagine a way to promote Hive through shorts that would actually be fun to me. It also doesn’t help that I have nearly zero following on my Web2 socials. Algorithm never seems to care for me 😆
Yes, I think this is one of the hurdles we have. Though, on a top down view, I think it is important, even necessary, that content fungibility is leveraged.
What do I mean by that?
Think of Uber, Lyft, Bolt etc.
The service you require is essentially fungible. Customers go where it is cheapest and/or easiest to get the service you want. The actual ride doesn't really differ too much.
Platforms providing this service have difficult creating moats because the fundamental offering is quite liquid. A driver could move from being a Lyft driver, to a Bolt driver to an Uber driver, just as easily as a customer could go between the platforms depending where they can get the same service for the best deal.
Crypto-exchanges are similar. You have choice, and a purchase of Bitcoin from Coinbase, Kraken or anywhere else, is still just a purchase of Bitcoin. It's hard to ultimately secure customers on the offering alone.
Content creators and their platforms are the same. I think this is why TikTok is quite successful, because their platform enabled the creation of those short videos which simply did not exist anywhere else. Then they doubled down on that. Other places have since tried to replicate it, be it instagram reels, or youtube shorts, but each platform's true unique selling point, and thus their defensible moat, came from the non-fungible offerings which initially gave them the headway to capture a significant first movers advantage.
Suffice to say, for us, the ultimate non-fungibility comes back to the users, and their ability attract attention. We are good at that on Hive, but rather poor elsewhere. I'm beginning to think we should make a collective and focused effort to help creators on Hive become prominent creators outside of Hive, if only to make them realise the best stuff is on Hive!
that's an amazing catch, very clear shooting results the resulting image is perfect
Much love to you 🙌
Looks like a eyes shoot. Lol
It's true that in photography when we know what we are doing we can create great outcomes in our photos without using or having expensive gears.
I started taking pictures recently and im starting to love it. Even tho they are mostly random shots, they smh turn out to be good shots and better than I have imagined. Just so you know, I like the eyebrows.
Random shots can still be great shots.
& thank you, I love my naturally thick brows too. I can't tell you how many girls have said they wish they had my eyebrows 🤣 I've learned to always take that as a compliment.
No doubt about that -Random shots can still be great shots.
That might even make a good title for my next “random shots” post.😊
I have seen girls who say that about men's eyebrows too. I bet those compliments end with multiple date nights...😎
After a while, we get used to changes on our body, being bald or hair implanting :)
The pictures are very cool
There's no doubt about that.
If I may ask, do you prefer Samsung to iPhone camera or which one?
I'm team iPhone all day. I've never owned any other type of smartphone. I had the very first iPhone and have felt no reason to leave Apple's ecosystem since. I can't really compare to Samsung cameras since I've never used one of their smartphones.
The camera is really so sharp

will be my next phone!
Wise choice, although we are getting closer to September, and maybe an iPhone 15 Pro will be an even better choice once they inevitably release.
ohh nice! will have to see, could do with a new phone though lol
😊😎🤙
Great to see that Smug Mug!
Have a great weekend!
Thanks man. Hope you had a good weekend too. Mine was pretty busy.
Si las fotos que tomas salen mal con el mejor teléfono celular del mundo que a mí criterio es el que tú tienes sería una locura, no te parece, iPhone 14 Pro Max lo mejor en tecnología celular.
Really liking the creativity here - awesome solutions to shooting self portraits! ❤
Great work man (as always)
