Happy Birthday George Floyd
We remembered a murdered man on Tuesday. A martyr. A man taken from his family far too soon. October 14th would have been George Floyd's 52nd birthday, to mark the occasion community members, activists, organizers, and agents of change came together in Injustice Square Park in downtown Louisville.
They were there to remember George Floyd and say his name, along with the names of so many others murdered by the state.
It was more than that though, a celebration of all the work that's been done since his death and a reminder of all the work still to come.
Speakers from a wide range of groups doing that work took turns addressing the gathered crowd.
With the Breewayy burgers and haircuts happening, it brought back memories of 2020, when the names Breonna Taylor and George Floyd first filled this square.
Plenty of familiar faces from those days too.
Couldn't begin to sum up all the speeches, but if there was an overarching theme, it was 'The struggle continues, get involved, things only change when we take action.'
And of course, Happy Birthday George Floyd!
Thousands more innocents have been massacred by the so-called 'Law Enforcement Forces' of all governments. Your photographs are a tribute, but also a reminder. Regards, @coloneljethro
So terribly, tragically true. Thank you, and regards!
