Blood In The Streets (Again)

Opened Instagram a couple days ago, and in a less than a minute had seen about three different clips of the government goon gunning down a woman in Minneapolis.

Louisville is all too familiar with that sort of thing, and so yesterday hundreds of folks returned to Injustice Square Park for a rally on the steps of Metro Hall.

'From Louisville To Minneapolis Stop ICE Terror' the organizers called it, a gathering to honor and remember Renée Nicole Good, and to demand justice for her and all the others harmed by ICE.

A slew of different local groups were involved in putting it all together, and a range of speakers addressed the gathered crowd. It was while Senate candidate Charles Booker (above) was speaking that we learned that ICE had shot two more people, this time in Oregon.

Booker had councilwoman and candidate for mayor Shameka Parrish-Wright come up and speak as well. She'd not planned to speak and was showing some of the emotion that folks were feeling.

Local media even covered the protest, although the TV newsies had to keep their distance for fear of a "Fuck ICE" chant making it on the air.

Once the speakers had everyone fired up it was time to take to the streets of downtown Louisville.

The route was familiar to those that'd been out in the streets in 2020, but then so much about this is all too familiar.

Up 6th Street and west on Broadway before winding our way back to the square.

Just so happened that the local ICE office was along the route.

Couldn't pass that up without letting them know what everyone thought of them.

The organizers made a point of it to make sure nobody even stepped on the grass at the ICE office (above, in the background), to make sure there was no excuse for the goons to get violent.

Wasn't all profanity and epithets though, everyone that could took a knee there for a minute, to honor and remember Renée Good and say her name.

After that, the march formed back up and made its way towards Injustice Square again.

Back at Injustice Square, the evening wrapped up with vigil for Renée Good.

Some of her poetry was read and then the night concluded with some music.

Our own police chief called her killing "easily preventable" (which is saying something), so in the days ahead don't forget to #sayhername and of course, Fuck ICE.
