Show & Tell
~ Covid Sucks ~
It's been a while since i last posted (just when i was planning to post more regularly)! I missed a solid week of curation and participation here on Hive due to Covid.
I got Covid last December and should probably tell that story sometime... but not in this post. That was only brought up to make a comparison and this round was worse than the first time i got it.

It be that way sometimes...
I have been pretty sick for a couple of weeks and therefore have been just getting by doing the minimum to keep things running in all the communities i manage. I felt so bad i didn't even get online to even use up my upvoting power.
I'm feeling much better now and things are getting back to normal. I went for a walk today and got some decent shots. It's the first time since i have been here that the mushrooms were so abundantly available to shoot.
However, you did have to look a little and actually pay attention to the surroundings. If you notice, these first shots have dew on the grass in many of the shots. They blend in quite well and weren't in such abundance that you don't have to even look. But honestly, i didn't have to look that hard.
One of my favorite aspects of shooting macro and mushrooms and flowers etc. is that when i go to edit the photos there is so much more content in the composition than i initially realized.
Some good shots become great ones just by chance. That's the lottery of photography and the odds are always in your favor when you exercise time and chance tempered with a bit of patience.

Power Up
~ Forest & Fungi ~
We have a lake near by and sometimes that is where i go to take my mushroom shots. All the shots so far and a few more to come are all on the way to the lake and the surrounding forests.
The Fly Agaric is one of my favorite mushrooms. I can't help but to shoot it each time i come across one. Even if they are generic or lacking color or in poor shape, i always find myself shooting them if i have a camera handy.
Many of them that i caught on this walk were in the early stages and just expanding the caps. So, the white chunks were more chunky than usual and the red flesh hadn't fully unfurled yet.
The Summer here in Sweden was pretty hot and it rained a lot... but it's still dry here. So, it's been a weird year for the plant life and fungi in particular. It's starting to get cold and the light is dwindling day by day.
I am not an expert on the plant life here or an expert on the Swedish biosphere... but i can say i was surprised to see as many mushrooms as i did today. Last time i went out (which was more favorable conditions for mushrooms) i saw nothing at all.

Don't Hassle The Hoff
That's when you gotta just keep on keepin' on!
~ Södra Bergundasjön ~
This is the lake. There is a boat dock at the entrance of the lake trail. I have shared shots of this place for many years at this point. If you take a right on the trail and go on just a ways there is a spot you can stop to rest and take a seat. There are some giant stones in the distance protruding above the surface of the water. There are usually some cool birds chilling on the rocks. This isn't a great shot but you can zoom in a bit if you want.
My camera isn't very good at zooming and focusing at the same time. hahaha I had about 3 more shots of the bird on the rock but i was reluctant enough to share even these two landscape lake shots. The other bird photos were poor quality in my opinion.
I did manage to get some good macro shots in this trip. The morning light filtered through the forest canopy made for some intersting shots. Some of these aren't even edited at all to increase color or contrast or even adjust the lighting. I was pretty proud of a few of these images.
I would be curious to hear which photo is your favorite and why in the comments. I will probably upvote the better responses to this answering of my curiosity in the comments with some fat upvotes.
Another cool thing about many of my photos in this post is the size of the imagery. Like, the flower below is smaller than my pinky fingernail. It looks larger in size in the photos... but that's macrophotography.
The truth is... these things are much smaller in person than they appear in these images.
These star-shaped flowers have tiny little star-shaped pistols! I didn't see that shooting but i did notice it when editing. These are like flowers within flowers and they are smaller than 5cm. That's crazy to me...
The pinkish-purple color of the petals was one thing i wanted to capture and portray... but it was also the sparkle of the petals that i wanted to share.

Walk This Way
~ Moss is Boss ~
Here in Sweden, there is a lot of moss. I love moss. When i was a young child... one of my favorite action figures was the villian Moss Man from He-Man. He had a fuzzy tactile element to his figure. To reenforce that he was made of moss they put green fuzz on him. I loved to rub the fuzz when i was a kid.
My dad bought me that action figure and to this very day... even though he is no longer with us, when i see moss, i think of Moss Man and my dad.
I have to admit i got some badass shots of the moss today. Usually, i don't do them enough justice to share in a post.
But, i would say today was the exception. The light was good and my camera decided to work with me. Sometimes the leaves in the canopy of the trees filters the light too far into the green and it affects the green saturation of the moss. My camera isn't good enough sometimes to differentiate but today i got lucky in a few shots.

Phallic
The irony is that in these phallic shots below, this mushroom head is growing out of the tree. So, it's like a woody growing out of the wood. Maybe, (probably) i'm just super weird.
~ Beauty ~
Since this post was getting long and there were many more shots to share i thought i would skip to the beauty. I particularly loved the nexxt few shots.
Those purple mushrooms always impress me! Even the dead leaves look fuzzy!
These always make me think of the turle-shelled characters on Super Mario Brothers.
They also make me think of buns. Honey buns, hamburger buns... i don't know?!
I really enjoy the colors and textures this moss and fungi have to share with us. The beauty is quite captivating!

Truly
Since i usually make my posts too long... and this one is no exception... i figured this would be a good place to stop for now.
I appreciate you all taking the time to stop by and check out my photos. I also thank those that read the words too! I will share the rest of the shots later. Y'all take care and....

I just ate, but these mushrooms are making me hungry.
Glad you're feeling much better! We ned you!
Great collection of finds @castleberry 😊🤩
Nice captures and so many mushrooms 🍄 beautiful.
Sorry to hear you had Covid and it takes so long.
I had it august/ beginning of this September it lasted 4 full weeks and knocked me down fully. We moved right after… so still a bit exhausted. Time for a break 😉🤓
Hope you recover well. Take care.
Yes, very sick for a little over a week and then it's been a slow recovery period. This is about week 4 for me too. It could have been much worse... so i am thankful! Take care and thanks for stopping by! =)
I know… luckily you are recovering. As I know it could have been much worse. With me too.
I’m vulnerable and have an autoimmune disease.
You are welcome. Take care… and recover fully!
Have a wonderful weekend @castleberry 👋🏻☀️
We arrived safely at our holiday destination late last night after 2 flights and traveling all day.
Let’s explore 🤩
Hope your holiday went well and good! =)
It is going great @castleberry 👋🏻😊 still 1,5 weeks left 😎
Thank you so much. Have a great week further!
At some point, I would like to have your approval to make a fan art of your beautiful photographs dear castle. They are a beauty what you capture in it. GORGEOUSSSS.
PS. glad you're back after dealing with the virus, and as creative as ever.
Feel free. I have lots of mushrooms in many of my posts over the years! Thanks for stopping by!

Sorry to hear that you were feeling poorly due to Covid. I hope you will be as good as new soon. Have a great weekend.
👍😊
Ooo @castleberry, take care of yourself. I am glad that you are well. As soon as you get infected with covid, you have to act fast. Pictures of mushrooms have always been interesting to me. I have never photographed a mushroom. Especially if it is in the heart of the plants and shines a mysterious light on them
I hope you're much better now @castleberry and those are pretty collection of fungi, I've rarely see them in real life and just ever came across different types of them from pictures like this😁
Thanks Mac! Slowly but surely getting mo bettah! hahaha
I'm glad to help you vicariously enjoy the magic of fungi. They are super cool and beautiful. We didn't have too many where i grew up in Texas. But here in Sweden they are all over around here. More to come soon! =) Have a great weekend.
Ah It's Been A While Since I've Read Your Post, Glad Everything Is Getting Back To Normal Now With You, Those Red Mushrooms Really Look Interesting Dont Think Ive Ever Come Across Them In India 🤔
I Have This One Growing At My Work Place Currently 😂 Don't Know What It Is But It Sure Looks Interesting.
That's a Polypore or Bracket fungi. They remind me of turtle shells.
The red ones are the same kind as from Super Mario.
I'm glad to be feeling much better. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment and share! Have a great weekend my friend!
Oh Yes They Do Resemble The Ones From Mario. You To Have An Amazing Weekend!
Oof, I am sorry you are feeling so crappy. I am glad you managed to some fresh air though. Your photographs are gorgeous. Mushrooms are such interesting subjects. And those photos of moss took my breath away. There is something magical about moss and mushrooms to me.
Especially if you aren't used to seeing this kind of moss. Before, i had only seen it on tv... but when in the forest when the whole floor is moss... it's like walking on a grassy cloud. It is awesome. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. Cheers!
Hi Cas! Too bad you've been sick for Covid again.😕 But it's good to have you back!😃 Now to party😎, drink mojitos🍸, go to a beach✈️🏖 and check out your communities from there. 💻
I am sorry to hear you where so sick, but looking at the photos it seems like you are better and thats very nice:)
Well I am not sure what photo I would pick as favourite one... but, I do agree with you on the makro-surprise-effect, I guess thats what I like about it as well, is that you are able to see all the details you cant with your eyes. And on top I do like this effect when you "create" things where you would still have the surprise, in the end, how it really turns out (a bit as when developing analoge-films, you never know whats on the picture)
Moss is awesome!! I used to love it too as a kid and look for the softest ones or even have a nap on it haha:)
Also the first shot after the lake is cool, the mix of all the forest details, you can get lost in, and I love how the last one of the pink-little-flower just literally looks like it is sparkling, crazy!!
Take care, and Ill watch out for the next forest walk:) (or the end of this one), cheers
Thank you! Glad to be feeling much better. Sorry i missed your latest post. I did catch it in time to add it to the community HotShots post. You had some great shots as usual.
That first shot after the lake i used as the thumbnail for the exact reasons you just mentioned. It draws you in. With the web in the foreground, the mushroom in the middle, the filtered light leaf in the back, and all the grass and moss breaking things up... i loved the depth of focal points. Thanks for noticing that.
I also tried to get the purple-pinkish flowers to show off their sparkle. They are literally glittery on the petals. Many flower petals are in fact glittery... it's just so small we usually miss it. I wish they made cloth of flower petals. That would be awesome!
I could definitely see laying and sleeping on moss now that i have experienced the real kind. You are right too... the magic in editing now is a lot like the development of film in analog photography. I'm surprised i didn't think of that since i have developed my own film back in the day. hahaha
Thanks for reading the post and for your thoughtful comments. Have a great weekend! =)
Flower petal cloth would be awesome indeed!! Dressed in flower petals with a coat of moss:)
Have a good day, cheers:)
... and we can wear Real Mushroom Hats!
hahah, crazy!! yess for sure, we add the mushroom hats!!
I'm happy with your story about Covid, it doesn't mean I'm happy that you have the virus, you just say that you are back to health and back to normal, that sounds very nice you can get through it well, you are very lucky, there are even people who can't get through it.
Btw, the photos are very beautiful, for the various types of Fungi there, maybe they welcome you there, and give you their beauty.
Keep your health mr @castleberry 🥰🥰
I totally understand! I am glad to be feeling much better. I could have been much worse. Thanks for your warm regards and for taking time to stop by and comment. I do feel like the Fungi have given me a glimpse of their beauty. I will share the rest soon. Have a great weekend!
You're welcome, I'm glad to hear that.
Happy weekend to you too.🥰🥰
i love moss too. thats cool you included a photo of the moss man action fig. i remember how into action figures i used to be. and super hero trading cards...
We had a MossMan sighting in my latest post! hahahhaa Glad you enjoyed that part. I have been getting in touch with my nostalgia lately! Cheers browski.
Heey! I'm sorry to read you got covid...How do you feel now?
I actually had Covid for the first time last month and it was so awful! I thought I'll never recover from it...I got paranoic by saying that there will be life before and after Covid 😂.. Now we're good, all the three of us, pray the Lord...
Caleb was bad too, he had fever up to 2 days around 40°C and we barely could control it.
Anyways, I hope you are ok now. You're in Sweeden again? For how long?
Other than this, great shots! I love the moss pictures, they are indeed really cool.
P.S. I've read all the single word! 😛 🤗
Thanks for reading all the words! hahaha We all feel much better now but it was a full week of sick and then a slow to recover next 3 weeks. I intentionally let myself have fever to burn it out of me faster. hahaha
So, now we are good... but when i had covid last December it was so mild and only a couple of days. Glad we all made it to the other side. Thanks for checking out my shots and posts.
We had one week covid and then one more for recover.
Thats good, about the fever. But you get it that when its to children, as parents we tend to get insanely anxious...😁🙄 every single time! 🤣
My pleaure to read from you, its not for nothing you're in my fav feed.
Hehh.
Beautiful pictures! I am so glad you have recovered, blessings!
Thanks for stopping by! =)
Hi amazing how much mushrooms you have. The red we also find here is very toxic. Sometimes people cook them and end up in the hospital in the best of cases. I love all his photos
