Steinhäger Museum Distillery - Light Painting

This week, I visited the Historical Museum in Steinhagen. I have already reported on the pharmacy and school classroom exhibited in the museum. You can find the link below. We did not include the part of the museum where the furnishings of a Steinhagen distillery are on display in our light painting because it was not possible to completely darken the room. I talked to the members of the museum association about a possible exhibition of some of the items. I had already done some camera rotations last year and would like to present them today.

For the cover photo, I placed a Steinhäger Kruke bottle on my music stand, which served as a table in this case. I illuminated the bottle with a NOCTICON DM11. Then I covered the lens, rotated the camera 30° around the optical axis, and replaced the bottle with another one. After that, I removed the lens cover and illuminated the second bottle with the flashlight. I repeated this six times. With the sixth bottle, I left the lens open while rotating the camera. This created the blur effect in the image.

The elongated brown stoneware bottle is called a jug. In the picture above, I repeated the process described for the cover image once again with the classic jug of the noble beverage.

The museum association is hard-working and produces several varieties of museum brandies, liqueurs, and gin every year. In the picture below, I photographed a bottle of genever and a bottle of gin during a camera rotation. Both brandies are highly recommended, by the way.

As can be seen in the picture below, the range would not be complete without Schlichte-Brand, which is still sold worldwide today. The label bears the slogan “Drink it in moderation, but regularly.” Some people probably take this very seriously. 😉

Light painting is a unique art form. As a rule, the darkness is illuminated by the artist with various light sources and traces of light are painted into the picture with various lighting tools. Various techniques are used, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. When using ND filters, this technique can also be used in daylight. All images were taken during a single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cropping and possibly adjusting the white balance, the images are not processed on the computer.
