Liberland - Ark

Liberland is a micronation in Southeast Europe claiming an uninhabited parcel of disputed land on the western bank of the Danube, between Croatia and Serbia (locally known as Gornja Siga). It was proclaimed on 13 April 2015 by the Czech activist Vít Jedlička.

My understanding without going deep into it is that after Yugoslavia fell apart the decided border between Croatia and Serbia was Danube river. There is nothing strange in that a river makes a border between two countries, but here Danube changed its course in some period of time (i didn't even manage to find when) So one country set the border on the current course of the river and other on the old one.

And in that, there were 7 square kilometers not claimed by any country. So Vít Jedlička found that info and in 2015 stick a Liberland flag on that land. Not sure how smart was that, but i whish him all the luck.

And while they are juggling with the regulations and trying to get to the land and start building, they build an Ark. A place located near Apatin, close to the Danube river.

The official currency of Liberland is Liberland Merits (LLM). You can also use Bitcoin to pay for stuff in the events they organize.

Liberland quite often organizes events in the Ark. The most famous one is Floating Man Festival. It is an annual event happening in the summer, happening for several years now.

My understanding is that you can stay in the Ark, as they have bungalows, but i am not sure can you book it all year around.

They do have some interesting ideas, with decent amount of problems to solve. But if they manage to do that, it will be interesting to see how a crypto nation can function.

That's truly a no man's land! I'm surprised the guy got that far and built so much in his 'country'

What interesting information about this micronation I was not aware of its existence, but it certainly shares these landscapes very characteristic of the mentioned nations.

It's definitely a place to visit if you're in the area. I've only seen such stories in the movies. Yet, here you are, showing us that such story exists in reality as well. Cool 😎

Not sure if it's brave or shows a moment of being crazy a bit too much, but at least the man invested a lot for his own little country which makes other enjoy it as well. However, if it becomes profitable, I bet both Croatia and Serbia will start fighting for that part and things won't be that nice anymore.

yap i am not sure either :) but technically he was right as it was not claimed by anyone. but i think that if they allow him to start building there, that will be it, he will have a country.

it is not well known, but they push it a lot in the crypto community. I think the president was talking at Bitcoin Miami

wow, it is a serious venture then , good luck with that. I was in El Salvador earlier in the year and they use bitcoin as standard currency alongside the dollar, that was a bit of a surprise too

option to pay with crypto is pretty cool. It will be interesting to see how it will develop in the next few years in El Salvador.

it is a bit crazy, especially with a place they picked. if it was me i would just let them do what they want to do. it could be beneficial for both countries as if people want to get there they need to go through Serbia or Croatia. and it could attract a good amount of people.
I think that Honza Urban guy is Cech and is living there.
