In the Intimacy of the Ceramic Workshop

(Edited)

Hello dear Hivers, we are back from the mountains and from our outdoor expedition ! Today, I propose you this photographic series in my girlfriend's ceramic workshop and some visual glimpses of her practice...

I am rarely on site and what's more, on a free day. Here all the conditions are met and I take advantage of it all the more as I have my camera with me !

DSC_0703.JPG

The mission of the moment is to make a series of flower pots with original shapes or at least different from the classic red clay pots...

DSC_0708.JPG

DSC_0731.JPG

An overview of the tools used for digging, smoothing, sculpting and much more !

DSC_0765.JPG

Two other essentials, the cup of tea and the headphones for listening to podcasts, but as I'm here today, the latter are out of work :)

DSC_0712.JPG

DSC_0717.JPG

Here is a view with the few models already made, but I imagine there will be many more in the end...

DSC_0721.JPG

DSC_0722.JPG

Here, it is all the glazes, those elements - mainly metal oxides - that allow the ceramics to be colored after the first firing.

DSC_0726.JPG

DSC_0727.JPG

This is the electric oven that has a fairly large capacity and can go up to over 1400° !

DSC_0732.JPG

DSC_0735.JPG

Here, tests of glazes waiting to be fired... The most surprising thing is that the colors will have nothing to do with what they are now !

DSC_0759.JPG

DSC_0761.JPG

Small focus on brushes... even if they are more used for illustration in this workshop.

DSC_0746.JPG

DSC_0754.JPG

Here is after some time the progress of the pot of the moment as well as the operations in progress...

I don't have much to say about these pictures, it's a bit of a reportage that speaks for itself and whose goal is to immerse you visually in the atmosphere of a ceramic workshop !

I hope you will have enjoyed this series ! Thank you for your visit and reading, have a nice day,

<3

<3

I am really fascinated when there are people doing this kind of art. I just want to stay beside them and watch how they play with the clays and form different shapes.

I most definitely did enjoy this tour around the ceramic workshop. This is a pure artist talent and her dexterity is just amazing.

I wish you stayed a little longer so we could see the end product.

Hello @anttn your post brings back memories.
Back in my school days I use to model things with clay
Though I did not have access to a sophisticated baking apparatus like yours.
I also tried my hand at the potters wheel.
Have you tried the potters wheel by any chance?
I got so fascinated by the potters wheel that I turned my old bicycle into a make shift potters wheel can you imagine this?
Another way to craft these pots is by using the terracotta technique have you or your girlfriend tried that ?
It is a lot of fun.
As always your post makes me feel I am connected to you like a twin in another land
Take care and do well my dear twin

I tried, but not enough to achieve something interesting haha 😅 !

I'm not sure, I will ask, but I don't think so..

Thanks dear, we may be connected indeed !
I wish you a good weekend, hopping you're doing good ✌️

PS: Sorry for being that late, I caught a little flu :)

I just do not believe this, How is this possible!
I am down with flu and cold myself. Me and my twin down with the same ailment at the same time in two different parts of the world!
OMG we are connected in more ways than one this is a bit crazy coincidence don't you think dear @anttn
Endless sneezing and now every time I cough my upper body and ribs aches.
Hope you are doing better than me Dear twin
Stay healthy and safe :)
For the potters wheel experience it can be pretty messy I agree as clay splashes and sometimes flies off if you do not put in the middle of the wheel.
Also you need to work it to get it much softer then if you were to use it for carving.

Haha ! This is quite amazing indeed !!
I'm on the end now, but it has been tuff at some point... Courage for the recovery too 😉✌️
