Successful workout despite a very low training readiness value... my training diary entry from December 14 2025

(I took this photo a few weeks ago while I was in the office. You can see the contrails of four airplanes. I find it kind of crazy how much traffic there is up there.)
Hi Actifitters,
after two nights of far too little sleep, I shortened yesterdays workout and focused solely on my top priority – push-ups. I did them in both regular and close-grip versions.
Although my training readiness was at a disastrous 1, I actually felt okay. So I started.
My current goal in regular push-ups looks like this:
| set 1 | set 2 | set 3 | set 4 | set 5 | set 6 | set 7 | set 8 | break between sets |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 10 | 13 | 13 | 10 | 10 | 9 | max (min. 25) | 45 seconds |
To my surprise, I almost achieved this requirement on my first attempt. Only two repetitions in the last set prevented a clean sweep. So my performance looks like this:
| set 1 | set 2 | set 3 | set 4 | set 5 | set 6 | set 7 | set 8 | break between sets |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 10 | 13 | 13 | 10 | 10 | 9 | 23 | 45 seconds |
Curious to see if I will be able to do the 100+ push-ups in eight sets within my next attempt.
After a short break, we moved on to the close grip push-ups. Here I was also able to record a significant increase.
My previous goal:
| set 1 | set 2 | set 3 | set 4 | set 5 | break between sets |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | 10 | 7 | 7 | max (min. 10) | 120 seconds |
Yesterdays performance:
| set 1 | set 2 | set 3 | set 4 | set 5 | break between sets |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | 10 | 7 | 7 | 11 | 120 seconds |
As you can see I was able to do 43 close grip push-ups in five sets. That are four more than last time and means we step forward to the following new challenge:
| set 1 | set 2 | set 3 | set 4 | set 5 | break between sets |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9 | 11 | 8 | 8 | max (min. 11) | 60 seconds |
At first glance, this seems doable, as it only requires five more push-ups. However, it's important to note that the breaks between sets are only 60 seconds instead of 120.
When I finished with the push-ups, I sat on my indoor bike for another hour at 130 watts.
Since it apparently wasn't enough that I slept badly for two nights in a row, the last night was another far too short one. Nevertheless, I had actually planned to push through today as well.
However, things are a bit complicated at the moment, as work is very busy. I usually always find time for exercise, but that's not so certain today. Well, we will see.
