📷 Dream Grass or Son Grass - Purple Decoration of My Garden 🌱

When warm spring comes, it appears - the beautiful Son-grass. A flower that is remembered for a long time.

What is Son-grass?

This is a perennial plant from the Zhovtetsev family. There are several of its species in Ukraine. Its flowers are like large bells, most often purple, but can also be white, blue and with a pink tint. The petals are covered on top with the so-called small fluff, which has a protective property against frost. This flower blooms from early April to late May. It has just bloomed at my place, so I will know more precisely after the flowering is over.

Where does it grow and what are its biological characteristics?

Usually this flower grows in sunny and dry places, in steppes and on forest edges, that is, where it will have enough necessary sunlight. Dream grass grows from 10 to 30 centimeters in height, these are average figures. The diameter of the flower can reach 7-8 centimeters. The leaves appear after flowering.

The legend of the flower

Its name in Latin means to waver, that is, at the slightest breath of wind the flower seems to start trembling, because it has thin petals and is generally very delicate. According to legend, a young girl went to the forest to collect spring flowers. A cunning and evil forester, seeing a beautiful girl, lured her into a trap surrounded by a wall of thorns. Then he turned into a young man and, approaching her, proposed to her to marry him. However, the frightened young girl, of course, did not reciprocate and refused. The irritated wizard put a curse on her, from which the girl fell asleep forever and turned into a flower, the same Dream Grass. Therefore, some people believe that the Dream Grass flower symbolizes indomitability and indomitability of spirit.

Healing properties

This flower is used in medicine to create a sleeping pill, for hypertension medication, and for treating skin diseases. It cannot be used on its own. All species of this flower are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine.

I have never seen it in the wild, so I decided to buy it and plant it in a sunny flowerbed, where it will be comfortable and I will admire its beauty. Therefore, this one of the first spring flowers will always be a little special for me.

Коли приходить тепла весна, з'являється вона - прекрасна Сон-трава. Квітка, яка запам'ятовується надовго.

Що таке Сон-трава ?

Це багаторічна рослина з родини Жовтецевих. В Україні є декілька її видів. Її квіти як великі дзвоники, найчастіше фіолетового кольору, бувають ще білі, сині та з рожевим відтінком. Пелюстки зверху вкриті так званим дрібним пухом, який маю захисну властивість від морозів. Цвіте ця квітка на початку квітня до кінця травня. Зараз вона якраз у мене зацвіла, тому точніше буду знати вже по завершенні цвітіння.

Де вона росте та біологічні особливості?

Зазвичай ця квітка росте в сонячних та сухих місцях, в степах та на узліссях, тобто там, де вона буде мати достатньо необхідного сонячного світла. Сон-трава росте від 10 до 30 сантиметрів у висоту, це середні цифри. Діаметр квітки може сягати 7-8 сантиметрів. Листя з'являється після цвітіння.

Легенда про квітку

Її назва в перекладі з латинської мови означає коливатися, тобто при найменшому подиху вітру квітка ніби починає тремтіти, тому що має тонкі пелюстки та й взагалі дуже делікатна. Згідно легенді молода дівчина пішла до лісу збирати весняні квіти. Підступний і злий лісовик, побачивши красиву дівчину заманив її в пастку, оточену колючими шипами стіну. Тоді він перетворився на молодого хлопця і підійшовши до неї, запропонував їй вийти за нього заміж. Проте налякана молода дівчина звичайно не відповіла йому взаємністю і відмовила. Роздратований чарівник наклав на неї прокляття, від якого дівчина назавжди заснула вічним сном і перетворилася на квітку, ту саму Сон-траву. Тому деякі люди вважають, що квітка Сон-трава символізує нескореність та незламність духу.

Лікувальні властивості

Цю квітку використовують в медицині для створення снодійного, для ліків від гіпертонії та для лікування шкірних захворювань. Самостійно використовувати її не можна. Усі види цієї квітки занесені в Червону Книгу України.

В природних умовах я її ніколи не зустрічала, тому вирішила купити і посади її на сонячній клумбі, де їй буде затишно, а я буду милуватися її красою. Тому ця одна з перших весняних квітів буде завжди для мене трішки особливою.
