The Blue Lagoon

Laguna del Condado is part of the San Juan Bay estuary, which is a protected area that has been undergoing improvements of its ecological system. There is a nice paved path along the shore from where you can see the blue waters of the lagoon that span the Condado and Miramar communities.

The day was blistering hot with only a few passing clouds providing respite from the scorching sunlight. There weren't many people outside, and those who ventured outside were taking shelter under the lush vegetation.

This plate shows some of the key landmarks around the city.

"Agua, tienes agua?" a lady, who appeared to be resting under the shady tree, called out as I passed by.

"No, lo siento," I said.

I could hear her muttering as I walked away.

Further down the path, I came across this obelisk in a small waterfront plaza.

Román Baldorioty de Castro is commemorated in this monument. He's one of Puerto Rico's national heroes who championed independence, and the abolition of slavery.

The steps lead down to the water, and it's a nice spot to take off your shoes and cool your feet in the lagoon while checking out the beautiful scenes of San Juan.
