TWO TO TEN KILOMETERS FROM ROVINJ

avatar

On the 12th of January this year I spent a couple of hours in the area around the city of Rovinj. I was driving around, stopping from time to time to take a photograph or two, with Rovinj never too far. I was always from two to ten kilometers from there.

This opening photograph was taken o a hill about two kilometers from the center of the city. In a suburban neighborhood made mostly of family houses surrounded by large yards.

I was standing on the low wall of one of the properties in that area.
Here you can see the moss that has grown on the wall.

Here you can see a construction site five or six kilometers from the city. In the following photograph ...

(Enlargeable)

... I zoomed in on the cockpit of the large crane, the most impressive piece of machinery in that place.

(Enlargeable)

The scaffolding provides an interesting texture making the fairly simple construction in progress visually appealing. Well, to me, at least.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can see the seedheads and the fluffy material that envelops the seeds of the Typha latifolia cattails.

(Enlargeable)

I found these plants in the muddy canal two or three kilometers from the center of the city. Not far from Rovinj's cemetery.

Here you can see the houses of the nearest suburban neighborhood in the background.

(Enlargeable)

The Church of St. Euphemia, probably the biggest building in the old town was also visible in the distance so I zoomed on it in this shot.

Here you can see the tall Miscanthus sinensis grass that sparsely grows along the edges of the dense growth of the Typha latifolia.

(Enlargeable)

I took a few more cattail portraits, and then ...

(Enlargeable)

... I walked to the beautiful old church on the other side of the road. In the following photograph ...

... the focus is on the keyhole, just a small detail ...

... of the door.

(Enlargeable)

The main and only entrance of the building.

(Enlargeable)

This small church, The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, was built in the 15th century.

(Enlargeable)

That's all I can tell you about it.

The drystone wall not far from the church was partially covered with ivy.

The ivy was prospering on the remains of another old building near the wall as well.

Can't tell you what kind of building was standing here once upon a time. In the following photograph ...

... I zoomed in on some distant trees. The nice mix of brown and green foliage caught my attention.

The barren tree in the center of this photograph is green only due to the ivy.

Here, the focus is on the church again. You can see it from a different angle this time. You cannot provide a good portrait of a building with just one photograph.

Here you can take a good look at the ceiling of the porch. In the following photograph ...

... you can see a few words written in Latin on the wall of the porch. It looks like something that was written a long time ago.

In another place, five, six, or maybe seven kilometers from Rovinj, I stopped for a minute by the side of the road to photograph the ruin shown in the above photograph. When the following photograph was taken ...

(Enlargeable)

... I was more or less ten kilometers from the city ...

... less than a kilometer from the small town called Bale.

Here you can see piles of gravel on the meadow by the side of the road, not far from my parked car.

They looked almost like some kind of natural formations.

Here you can see the football field and some fairly new houses on the outskirts of Bale. In the following photograph ...

(Enlargeable)

... you can take a look at some buildings in the center of the small old town.

AND THAT'S IT. AS ALWAYS IN THESE POSTS ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK.

THE END

Yes, you saw a very similar photograph in a post about some reflections photographed the same day. Very similar but not exactly the same if you explore all the little details. Anyway, congratulations on the excellent eyesight.

Another fantastic and historical adventure through photos! I think @slobberchops might really enjoy some of the abandoned buildings. Something peaceful about seeing nature take back.

Lovely photos again. Lots of moss. Seems there's no snow there now. Nice to see building under construction, and the old ones.

It's amazing how different people's perspectives can be, as it can be the case of someone who lives near the church or the construction and doesn't give it much importance, but then there are people like you who take amazing pictures of small details like moss and scaffolding, which also or pine trees that make the construction in progress look great, I don't know how to explain it but it's satisfying to see those little details.
