ON THE 20TH OF AUGUST 2015

avatar

The 20th of August 2015 was a very eventful day for me. I took plenty of photographs, and today, in this post, I'll show you all of them.

A cat is exploring the bucket in this opening shot taken early in the morning near the outdoor sink in my yard.

A snail was slowly crawling across a nearby piece of stone. Pomatias elegans is the name of the snail species shown in this photograph.

(Enlargeable)

Around noon I was swimming, snorkeling & sunbathing on my favorite stretch of coastline in the area called Marlera, about five or six kilometers from where I live.

You can take a look at the evening sky in this shot.

I was on the beach again late in the afternoon ...

(Enlargeable)

... and I took plenty of photographs on that occasion near the end of the day.

(Enlargeable)

Around noon I was alone, so I took only six shots. Six selfies. Later I was surrounded by a bunch of friends ...

... so I have considerably more photographs to illustrate the evening in Marlera.

The weather was hot & humid, and the sky was partially cloudy.

Yep. I took quite a few summer portraits on that occasion.

(Enlargeable)

This and the following photograph are almost identical, but ...

(Enlargeable)

... but there is a smile to make a difference and justify the existence of both shots.

This photograph was taken earlier. Around noon. The Xanthochilus saturnius, a bug from the Rhyparochromidae family is running across the dusty road that leads along the beach. In the following set of six shots ...

(Enlargeable)

... you can see the same bug posing on my left hand.

This muddled, grainy shot was taken early in the morning. Two friends and my small dog Bepina are resting in the guest room at my house.

(Enlargeable)

Half an hour later, I was eating the homemade elderberry jam in the kitchen. After that quick sweet breakfast ...

... I drove to the grocery store on the opposite side of town. When I stopped to buy a bit of bread in the small bakery, I noticed this weird advert. It states that "YOU CAN NEVER GET ENOUGH OF GOOD BREAD" ... and that's a good catchphrase, nothing weird with that ... but ...

(Enlargeable)

... but someone transformed one of the bread loaves in the advert into some kind of fish, a catfish maybe. That's the weird part. I like it of course. Fukkin' osom stuff. Fukkin' osom is supposed to mean fucking awesome, I suppose. Also, "som" means catfish in my language, so there is some kind of pun hidden in it as well ... maybe.

Around 8 AM we were in Pula, the nearest city. In this photograph, you can see my two friends in some kind of office. Can't remember where exactly in the city this place was. After that ...

... we spent some time in the small but well-equipped pet shop on the outskirts of Pula, in the neiberhood called Veruda.

(Enlargeable)

The owner of that place is especially fond of reptiles.

So we had the opportunity to interact with quite a few snakes.

It was a unique occasion ...

(Enlargeable)

... so I took plenty of photographs.

The small compact camera I was using in 2015 wasn't very good ...

... and it was partially broken as well ...

... so the quality of the shots shown in this post is far from being great ...

... but I'm still glad that I'm able to show them.

(Enlargeable)

The shop had also some fish and aquariums on the shelves. Here you can see the ghostly fishes reflected in the glass. It looks like they are flying high above our heads, just under the ceiling.

Here you can see some playful South American rodents.

Can't remember the name of the species.

After encountering all these interesting pets ...

... we returned to Medulin, my hometown.

This insect was photographed in Marlera.

On the blackberry shrub near the sea.

It's a planthopper. You can see two planthoppers in this shot. Metcalfa pruinosa is the name of this species from the Flatidae family.

This is the Phaneroptera nana. A bushcricket from the Tettigoniidae family.

On the dry grass under the shrub, I photographed a grasshopper nymph. The name of the species is Locusta migratoria.

Here you can two roses on the floor of my living room. In the following set of nine photographs ...

(Enlargeable)

... a friend is creating the bouquets with the roses from the yard.

(Enlargeable)

This spider was hanging on the facade, near the entrance to my ground-floor apartment. The name of the species is Pholcus phalangioides. The family is Pholcidae. It's a female with a cluster of eggs.

AND THAT'S IT. HOPE YOU ENJOYED THESE FRAGMENTS FROM MY ORDINARY LIFE IN THE SUMMER OF 2015. AS ALWAYS HERE ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK.

How you can catch snake in your hands? I mean you are very brave. I have a great fear of snake, lizards etc don't like them at all.
At above shots, you are swimming, great but I think the weather was quite cold. I like to see snail crawling on the ground and the cat was looking funny.
I also have a pet cat. She is very naughty. But I have a great love for cats, dogs, etc.

For some reason the 2 roses on the floor struck me as the best of the bunch. Liked seeing all the different snakes too.

No sé. Fue hace años y no me acuerdo. Quizá había agua de lluvia en el balde.

Vi esta planta solo en documentales. Es muy interesante. La naturaleza en su área es muy exuberante e interesante.

That's some really nice snakes, I think when you catch the snake, you feel fear a little, I'm I, right? And the spider looks dangerous, it should have Venum.

Among those hands+snakes captures there are a few quite funny, full of unusual human emotions. I also like the last one, the spider female with a cluster of eggs -- I never noticed one like this myself.

When something is thirsty or hungry, it looks for things in the same way. I'm so scared of the way all you guys are carrying the snake. The insect sitting on top of your hand looks so much more beautiful. This picture is my favorite in your photography.
