Phone Photography Contest #105: Spring is Here [ENG/ESP]

Spring is Here

Last Saturday, March 21, was the Spring Equinox, and although Venezuela is located in the tropics—meaning we don’t have the four traditional seasons, but rather a dry season and a wet season—this month and the coming months nonetheless mark the beginning of a cycle characterized by the blooming of plant species and the harvesting of fruits, such as mangoes.

In this regard, it is very common to see araguaneyes, trinitarias (also known as bougainvilleas), and other shrubs adorning parks, streets, avenues, and homes throughout the city and across the country in general.

This weekend, taking advantage of the clear, sunny day with no chance of rain, I walked to a park near my home to resume the necessary physical activity that I had often put off for various reasons.

El pasado sábado 21 de Marzo fue el Equinoccio de Primavera, y aunque Venezuela está ubicada en el trópico por lo cual no contamos con las 4 estaciones tradicionales, sinó con una temporada seca y otra húmeda; igualmente este mes y los próximos marcan el inicio de un ciclo caracterizado por la floración de especies vegetales y la cosecha de frutos, tales como el mango.

En este sentido, es muy común ver araguaneyes, trinitarias, también conocidas como buganvillas, y otros arbustos, adornando parques, calles, avenidas y viviendas a todo lo ancho y largo de la ciudad, y en todo el país en general.

Este fin de semana, aprovechando el día despejado y soleado, sin ninguna probabilidad de lluvias, caminé hasta un parque cercano a casa, con la finalidad de retomar la necesaria actividad física, muchas veces pospuesta por diversas razones.

After walking around the park and taking my usual photo session, I headed home. As I walked, I couldn’t help but notice the colorful spectacle unfolding before my eyes, so I pulled out my phone and decided to snap a few photos to share later.

As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.

Luego de recorrer el parque y de tomar mi acostumbrada sesión de fotos, regresé a casa y mientras camina no pude dejar de observar el colorido espectáculo visual que tenía ante mis ojos, y luego de sacar mi teléfono móvil, decidí realizar algunas capturas para compartirlas posteriormente.

Como he descrito en posts anteriores, las fotografías originales las proceso haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen en sus versiones gratuitas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed.
