Phone Photography Contest 101 | La Fragata VIP+

A heartfelt greeting to everyone reading this! This post is my entry for week 101 of the Phone Photography Contest. Besides the pictures, I want to share a little bit about what motivated me to share them. A couple of weeks ago, at a good friend's birthday party, I had another "first"... Many of you might find my story funny, but I'd never been able to get into a nightclub before, for various reasons. At 37, it was something that had never happened before, and now that the opportunity arose, it turned out to be a gay-friendly club—one of those places where everyone is welcome because equality is the main focus.

Además de las imágenes, quiero compartir un poco de lo que me motiva a compartirlas, y es que hace un par de semanas, en el cumpleaños de un gran amigo tuve una nueva "primera vez"... Puede que a muchos aquí les de risa mi caso, pero nunca había podido entrar a una discoteca, por diversas razones, pero a mis 37 años, es algo que jamás había ocurrido, y ahora que la oportunidad se ha dado, resultó ser una discoteca de ambiente, esos lugares donde todos son recibidos porque lo que destaca es la igualdad.

Don't think for a second that I tried to go to nightclubs night after night in my youth. The truth is, I've always been one to get together at my house or my friends' houses for any kind of celebration. But I did try several times, especially between the ages of 18 and 25, before I moved to a different city. Perhaps not knowing the nightlife scene worked against me. I never understood opening hours, dress codes, or how long you have to wait to get in. In fact, it all seemed so silly to me that I was always the first in my group to suggest going somewhere else. Sometimes I was invited to gay clubs, like the one I'm showing you in the photos, but in the 2000s, with so much discrimination, I honestly felt a bit apprehensive because of everything I heard about these places.

Tampoco crean que en mi juventud intenté ir a discotecas noche tras noche, la verdad es que siempre he sido de reunirme en mi casa o en casa de mis amigos para cualquier tipo de celebración, pero vaya que lo intenté varias veces, especialmente entre mis 18 y 25 años, antes de mudarme de ciudad, pero quizás el no conocer la movida nocturna me jugó en contra, nunca entendía de horarios, vestimentas o el tiempo que hay que esperar para poder entrar, de hecho me parecía tan tonto que siempre fui el primero de mi grupo en proponer ir a otra parte. Algunas veces me invitaron a discotecas de ambiente, tal como esta que les muestro en las fotos, pero en la década de los 2000 y con tanta discriminación sinceramente sentía algo de temor por todo lo que escuchaba de estos lugares.

I'm a more mature person now in every way. So many experiences have led me to appreciate every moment and all the wonderful people around me. It was a great friend's birthday today, a defender of LGBTQ+ rights, and he wanted to celebrate at this popular spot in the city. Just because he's gay doesn't mean he only has friends with the same interests; in fact, almost all his guests, people from my group, are heterosexual or even married. But we happily went to this club midweek, and the main intention was to sing karaoke for a couple of hours, although the night took us much further. Now my gym bros and I are eager to go back! 🤣

Ahora soy una persona más madura en todos los sentidos. Tantas experiencias que he vivido me han llevado al punto de disfrutar cada momento y de todas las personas valiosas que me rodean. Este día cumplía año un gran amigo, defensor de los derechos lgbt y él quería celebrar su cumpleaños en este popular lugar de la ciudad. No por ser gay tiene solo amigos con sus mismos gustos, la verdad es que casi todos sus invitados, gente de mi coral, somos heterosexuales o incluso estamos casados, pero con mucha alegría fuimos a esta discoteca, a mitad de semana, y la verdad es que la intención principal era cantar en karaoke un par de horas, aunque la noche nos llevó a más. Ahora mis gymbro's y yo hemos quedado con ganas de volver 🤣

I can't help but arrive early everywhere I go. My wife and I were among the first to visit La Fragata, located in Sabana Grande, Caracas, and of course, the beauty, art, and design of the place inspired me to take pictures before it got crowded. There were many motifs with the seven colors of the rainbow, as you can see in some of the photos, and of course, the soft neon lights stood out in every corner. I thought the place was incredibly cool. I think the only retro anecdote I have from that night was being surprised not to find a men's restroom 😅 The restroom was for anyone who needed it, men, women, or anyone else... I had to go back to my spot to find my wife so she could help me figure it out, because there was more than one restroom (all of them undefined).

No puedo evitar llegar temprano a cualquier lugar. Mi esposa y yo fuimos de los primeros en conocer las instalaciones de la Fragata, ubicada en Sabana Grande, Caracas, y por supuesto, que la belleza, el arte y el diseño del lugar me motivo a tomar fotografías antes de que se llenara de personas. Había muchos motivos con los siete colores del arcoíris, tal como pueden apreciar en algunas de las fotos, y por supuesto, las luces de neón tenues destacaban en cada rincón, se me hizo demasiado chulo el lugar. Creo que la única anécdota retrógrada que tengo de esa noche fue sorprenderme al no encontrar un baño para caballeros 😅 el baño era para quien necesitara usarlo, hombres, mujeres o más... Tuve que regresar a mi lugar a buscar a mi esposa para que me ayudara a salir de dudas, porque había más de un baño (todos indefinidos).

At the end of the day, we waited for midnight singing, laughing, and toasting. It was obvious that most of us were over 30 and had come straight from work 🤣, and yet, there was always time to dance for a while and fully experience what I missed out on in my twenties. I think the best part was doing it with my wife. Honestly, with her, I've had the most beautiful experiences life has given me, and I always remember that young man who didn't understand why his life wasn't normal and who cried silently because he wanted more... It turns out that everything comes at the perfect time, even the most superficial desires, but you only learn that with maturity 🙏 I hope you enjoyed these photos, keep having a great time 😉

Al final del día esperamos la media noche cantando, riendo y brindando, igual se notaba que la mayoría de nosotros somos ya señores mayores de 30 años y que veníamos de trabajar 🤣 y aún así, siempre llegó el momento para bailar un rato y poder vivir esa experiencia completa que no pude disfrutar en mis veintes. Creo que lo mejor de todo fue haberlo hecho junto a mi esposa, la verdad es que junto a ella he tenido las experiencias más hermosas que la vida me ha podido regalar, y siempre recuerdo a aquel muchacho que no entendía por qué su vida no era normal y que lloraba en silencio porque quería más... Resulta que todo llega en el momento perfecto, hasta los deseos más superficiales, pero eso solo lo aprendes con la madurez 🙏 Espero que les hayan gustado estas fotografías, síganla pasando bien 😉
