Curator Cat: Kittens in the Sun... and Getting to Know Their New Surroundings!

Greetings, Fabulous Felines and Hoomans of Hivelandia!

Hope this day finds you happy and well!

Shangri, loving the sun!

Our new kittens are gradually learning to relax into their new home. One of the "treats" for the day seemed to be the sun streaming in through the window... after six weeks in a cage at the animal shelter — even though they were well taken care of — seeing the sun again must have felt really wonderful!

Although both kitties were understandably skittish and nervous as they arrived here, they are adapting quite quickly to their new life.

Yesterday, they barely wanted to come out from under the bed; today they were roaming the guest room freely and felt no need to take cover when the Hoomans would enter the room.

Shangri in the sun, again

After a while, he actually got toasty warm enough, and went back to what has become "his spot" in the cat condo.

Naptime!

Lala is definitely the more curious and playful of the two, and she has been the first to come out of hiding since the beginning... even at the animal shelter.

That said, she also likes to take her turns on the windowsill, overlooking the back yard. I can't imagine what it must have been like for them, living in a relatively small cage for six weeks!

Of course, playtime happens quite often, because kittens have lots of energy, even though they sleep 16-18 hours a day. Or per 24-hour period.

Once Lala has declared the world to be safe with her participation, Shangri is quick to join in the fun!

What's that?

Since they are brother and sister, they are not only familiar with each other... but they also seem to be very close and bonded, and we're happy they became part of the family as a pair.

Should I get it, or will you?

It's exciting to see their personalities come through as they get more relaxed in their new home!

In the meantime, the Hoomans are doing a good job of giving me and Smudge lots of attention as the "old" cats of the house, so we don't feel neglected!

Thanks for coming to visit, and we hope you come back, for lots more kitten pictures in the months ahead!

Love Cats? Get Involved in Hive's Cat Communities!

If you're a cat lover and often/sometimes post pictures or other content that includes your feline friends, why not become an active part of Hive's growing Cat Communities?

These are some of the more active Cat Communities — why not join them ALL? Many of the allow you to share your cat posts, even if you started at a different community!

HiveCats by @curatorcat is a central "gathering place" for cat content on Hive; promoting the use of the #hivecats tag for feline content!

Cat Snaps by @manorvillemike is a place to post pictures of your cats when you don't have a whole lot to say beyond just sharing your cute photos!

Caturday by @saboin is a community where we get to celebrate posts relating to Saturday — aka "Caturday" — our own special day!

Cat Photos by @andrarchy is a "mixed use" cat content community; posts can be just photos or longer, as long as the subject is CATS!

Cats by @captainklaus (and Sissi!) is another "general" cat content community.

There are a number of other feline communities listed on Hive, but I am not sharing them for now as they have not had any activity (by their Admins OR users) since the Steem/Hive fork. Updates as they become available!

How nice to see these kittens enjoying the sunshine and playing again. They look very happy and contented with their new home. Hope they would play with the older cats too.

They are being introduced to each other slowly.

So far, they seem very happy to be away from the animal shelter and in quieter sunny surroundings.

awww! these photos are so sweet! They are both really beautiful cats and I absolutely love that you have decided to adopt them as a pair. Sibling cats have such a special bond that is hard to find with unrelated cats. All my childhood we adopted individual cats that sort of tolerated each other but weren't ever very close. Now I have three sibling cats and I am convinced that it is better for them to stick together, when possible.

We were pretty set on adopting littermates, and these two do seem quite bonded. We looked at several other litters... but these two were the last of six, so we decided they should stay with us, rather than (likely) be separated by a different adoption.

Evidently, it was a good day at the local shelter... 14 kittens adopted out that day!

What does Smudge think?

Smudge has so far only come nose to nose with them through a baby gate. There was no hissing or growling, just curiosity. Shadow has met them (in a managed space) and they sniffed each other, so far no significant disagreements.

We're doing it a bit at a time.
