Christmas is almost here. Let’s celebrate this with a tasty sour!

The last couple of days are really like a roller coaster. We had some seasonal health issues, both us and the kids and it was a bit tough… but on the other hand we had our Christmas tree decorated and hang our window lights. But by bit Christmas spirit is creeping in and this compensates a bit our illnesses. Now, it feels a lot warmer at home with all these decorations. Furthermore, it’s very cold outside and we are very comfortable on the soft sofa.

The beer that I decided to enjoy today is not very typical for the cold weather. It’s a sour, but who can really judge which beer is more suitable than the other in this time of the year? After all of it’s tasty and well enjoyed, then it’s suitable by all means!

I found they the Christmas tree was quite a good background for some cool photos of this beer brewed by Estonian Põhjala brewery. I always enjoy their beers and never found a bad one among their collections. Of course, some of their beers stand a lot higher than the others, but still all their beers are decent. My wife knows that and bought me this can at her last visit to Sofia.

The beer is a raspberry sour. I love raspberries when infused in sour beers, or used to ferment or flavor dark beers like stouts or porters. But, really the best flavor they give to sours.

I cannot say that this is some special sour. I think it’s just an ordinary one like a Berliner weisse. I remember brewing this exact style and when I enjoyed the finished product I used to put frozen raspberries in the beer glass. This way I was keeping the beer cool for longer period of time and some additional flavor was added.

Today all the ingredients are mixed in the can, so I can just enjoy the beer straight from the can.

The beer itself is quite hazy and has some pinky hues in its color. This is due to the addition of the fruits of course. Carbonation is on the lower side and the head isn’t present at all. Yeah, it has some foam initially when pouring, but it disappears very quickly soon after the beer is in the glass. Just typical for the sour beers.

The taste reminds me my home brew, the Berliner weisse with added raspberries, a lot. And I found it well enjoyable even in a cold and gloomy day like today. After all, when it’s warm at home, when it’s warm in our souls, every problem is solved easily. I hope that soon the kids will be healthy and we will be ok around them too.

Wish you a nice Sunday evening and a prosperous new week.
See you soon!
