STRAY CATS - FROM MONTALBÁN, VENEZUELA

The street landscape of my town (Montalbán, Carabobo, Venezuela) would not be complete without the magnificent presence of our adorable stray cats. So, for me, taking street photography almost always implies encountering cats and photographing them. Furthermore, I have been a cat lover since—about 7 years ago—someone abandoned newborn kittens at my garage door, and my wife and I raised and cared for them; they still remain with us and are part of our family. That is why today, while exchanging comments about cats with my friend @x-rain (an excellent street/documentary photographer whom I recommend following if you don't, and whose work frequently includes wonderful photos of stray cats), I couldn't help but feel that today was a good day to review my recent archives, select some photos of stray cats, and share them here on #Hive with all of you. Besides, it's #caturday and that makes the day even more fitting for that! 😺👍

It's important to clarify that here in Montalbán, the term "stray cat" is somewhat relative. Just like with dogs, cats here can be found on the streets, crossing them, appearing in vacant lots, and wandering through alleyways and rooftops. But it's also very common for these same cats to visit homes almost daily and be fed by families, even interacting with cats that stay inside. In these small towns, people may lack many things, but they always seem to have something to give the cats, whether it's affection, food, or both. This is a small town with only two or three veterinarians, but it's quite common to see them treating stray cats and dogs free of charge, after being notified by neighbors about animals in trouble. So, here, these little animals don't have it as bad as they might in other places.

Cats are special beings; at least, that's how I understand it. Because, although they can be much less dependent on people if compared to dogs, they still seek to be close to us and generate empathy as soon as they connect their gaze with ours... I have seen practically wild cats in some rural areas of my town and they also approach and respond to any sign of affection... I don't know, there is something special about cats that interacts with people's souls; so it seems to me...

Fantastic shots, just stunning!!

Each one deserves a separate share on Reddit, if you are thinking of sharing there through HivePosh. Please don't bury all these images in one huge mish-mash Reddit post - it's not an optimized way of posting on Reddit and these portraits deserve much more than being #12 in a huge set...

Anyway, thank you so much for your attention and your photography!!

Oh my gosh, thank you my frien, but I already shared them all together on Reddit! 🤦‍♂ I suffer from anxiety disorder, I think, it's nothing new about me 😂🙃... But don't worry, I have more and more cats in my files and my streets, many more! I'll make another post later and share them like you said!... 😃👍

No problem then - it's a great gift from you for my subreddit, thank you a lot! You just don't know the real value of your cat photography - each one is precious!

Now I've read the post 😆 and writing another comment:

the term "stray cat" is somewhat relative.

That's how the world lives - at least, what I saw. Many Westerners call each cat they see on a street in Asia or Eastern Europe "a stray" or even "a feral" while in most cases they see an owned cat exploring the outdoors. Many cats, who actually don't have an owner, have humans who care about them in one or another way - so-called community cats. But that's not the end of the story: there are wat cats living in Buddhist temples, mosque and church cats who are owned by a temple... but as you understand a temple can own nothing so there is a person or two or three in that temple who....... So, the world of cats is much more complicated than you can think at first sight. Like, some cats are owned and have a home but get so little food or/and love that they have to steal from trash bins of neighbors. That's why I like this term - street cats. Street cats are just cats on the streets, don't hurry to make a conclusion about them.

they still seek to be close to us and generate empathy as soon as they connect their gaze with ours

This is so true. One of the big reasons why I love cats so much - they connect to your soul through gaze, and they search for mutual respect and harmony.

My friend, you're quite the "old soul," I don't know if you understand me, but from my perspective, I sense you're an old soul who knows some truths that not everyone sees... Have a happy week!... And cheers to the "community cats", and to the kind people who give them some affection and care!... And not just to cats, but to any living being! 👍

This sounds inspiring, and it is probably true, lol 😄

Thank you!! Have a happy week, too!!

Thanks again for the amazing colorpoint kitty!! 😀 That's a real inspiration for making my own cat photography better (as soon as I am in a big city with enough kitties on the streets! 😭)

As a dictator 😀 of my subreddit: your content is a jewel for the subreddit, attracting many viewers and members, but when it comes with Hive links, it can make Reddit filters believe that my cat subreddit is a promotional platform, a puppet of Hive. So, if you share no more than 2 Hive links a week in the subreddit, that would be a good point. I don't feel happy to be a dictator, but a subreddit is a pure toy in the hands of Reddit filters - they can simply switch off the growth if the subreddit looks suspicious to them. They did it to me once when I approved 3 good cat posts of a new user, who Reddit filters considered a potential spammer - the subreddit had been hardly growing for 2 weeks. 😓

I hope you understand. Saying this to a photographer I've been dreaming of seeing in my subreddit for so long is not easy 😅

Hello again, dear @x-rain friend! 😀👋 I understand everything now! Don't worry, thanks for letting me know! Now, with what you've said, I understand Reddit filters and things like that much better, which was frankly difficult for me to grasp! In fact, I had no idea it worked like that! I'm quite absentminded about that sort of thing! 😂 I'll keep an eye out for sending you my cat photos, but without links, and only one a week with a link! Don't worry!

Thank you so much... 2 Hive links are perfectly fine. If you comment (or even post) without Hive links, that would be a very generous gesture, and I will love it, but only if you feel fun from this activity and don't spend too much time on that. 😊

If you want to build your own subreddit, I can tell you the most important "secrets" and ready to post in your sub if my photos would match it.

I'm quite absentminded about that sort of thing

Every social media is special, you can't learn one easily. I have passively used Pinterest for a long while, and needed one year or so to understand how it generally works, lol, apart from the fact that you can click-and-save images there. 😄

Now I am writing a post about how Reddit works, how to avoid the Reddit filters issue and generally how to make a Reddit account healthy.

Hey friend, I'm a 55-year-old guy with a lot of free time, a not-so-mild obsessive-compulsive disorder 🤣, I love cats and photos, so I'll be posting cat pictures in your space frequently! Don't worry, it's both an honor and a pleasure for me!

I don't think I'll create my own subreddit. I know #Hive is small at the moment and affected by the crypto market and other things, but it's what I like best for sharing what's on my mind, and I feel a bit "trapped or limited" on other social media, especially when I write, so I use them much less than other networks. I wish everything were more like #Hive, man 🤷‍♂... However, it will be interesting to read what you're writing about Reddit; you're always quite pedagogical when you write! 😃👍

obsessive-compulsive disorder

I can guarantee I have some lovely diagnoses too. 😄 Bipolar disorder, some sort of autism? Never checked myself.

it's both an honor and a pleasure for me!

Honor to me! 😊

"trapped or limited" on other social media

I hate the feeling of the algorithm you should serve without knowing what exactly it wants. Reddit is the best place, compared to Instagram, Threads, etc.

quite pedagogical when you write

😊😊 Thank you!!

They don't like to be photographed, I already know that for sure. Especially since I remember that I was once inspired by your photos of cats and wanted to take some photos of my own 😁😊
