Everything is so fast-paced now

Easter Sunday recently happened and we went to an egg hunt party with my brother and nieces. It made me think back of my childhood and how 'simple' times were back then.

It felt like time moved so slow and there were more than 24 hours in a day. The world felt really big and you're living in your own world. It was like I can do anything and everything yet would still have time to do something else lol.

It might be the nostalgia, or remembering times our own way, but I think this is a common feeling among us.

It's the internet.

(lol that was fast)

We didn't have stable internet growing up so a lot of my childhood was either going out to play with the neighborhood kids, playing on my own with toys, reading the dictionary and literally anything I could see, sewing doll clothes, making sculpture, playing with dirt, etc. Even when we got a family computer, I would just check Encarta or Encyclopedia Britannica if I remember it correctly since those don't need an internet connection.

I would explore every game and writings and trivias in those programs and I would never get bored of them.

And then, we slowly got internet connection from time to time. It wasn't like a subscription like what we have now, it was only when you 'load' the modem and let's say for 5 days you'll have limited data til it runs out or expires.

The world changed for me. The 'Encarta' became so much bigger. I can search anything, watch videos I want, download music from virus-contained apps. It's like the day would never end cos I can be on the internet as long as there's data.

Even in my teenage years, we didn't have the most stable internet connection because it was expensive back then. I was able to be on the internet and gather some inspirations and would be able to make a lot of art and stuff offline.

Nowadays, it feels like 24hours is way too fast and I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling this. Digital age as they say. The world became smaller and we can send things faster. Communication is instant.

And because of that, we have to do things in an instant too.

DSCF6496.jpg

Because the world is so accessible right now, we are able to consume a lot of content. Maybe get distracted. Maybe our focus is on something else. It feels like we don't live in real time. There's always something to do. Something we HAVE to do.

DSCF6505.jpg

And it's so important to take a break from technology from time to time. That's probably why most of us are burnt out and are easily so. Instead of us doing what is supposed to be a fun activity for ourselves, we're on the internet consuming content. Even worse if you live on creating content or anything creative, you'll get the pressure of producing more often. Causing you to be burnt out more often.

Without internet, time was so slow because we didn't know what we were missing out on. We didn't see much of other people's lives. We got to live our own.

We can't just stop using it ofc. Just breaks more often would help I guess.

Encarta oh my god what a remembering unlocked you have done... It was on cd back in the days, i remember I used to for school... We had the 56k modem, was super expensive and slow like hell... ADSL came out when I finished school... But indeed time passed slower, I remember one year of school was endless... I guess because you had no responsibility back then

I learned so much with Encarta back then. So much art, history, poetry, geography, and all that stuff. Even those mini-games too where you could put the parts of the body in the right places or the countries in maps... I miss games like those!

LOL yeah internet was so slow back then too. I remember downloading My Chemical Romance music video before and it said 5 days before it can finish 🤣

I remember one year of school was endless

Same haha. That is probably true though, no responsibilities. I don't know from the parents' perspective back then, maybe they felt it was faster cos they had responsibilities.

Haha I don't know which version we were using but yeah there were so many trivia games and stuff. Now I kinda want to find something similar just so I can be smart about geography haha

It's true that the present times seem to be running very slowly. But sometimes the memories of the past make us feel very good and sometimes we wish we could go back to our childhood.

That is true. I can't imagine being a child in this time tho. I think we were lucky we're still able to experience playing outside and at the beginning of the internet age at the same time. Being a child right now is mostly just in front of screens mostly cos of neglectful parents raising these iPad kids. :<

It is a fact that our childhood days did not have the Internet and we spent the whole day in sports. But gradually technology developed. So the world turned to the Internet. But initially the data was limited, expensive and the speed was also slow limited. But now takeover 4G and 5G technology, its speed has increased greatly. The use of mobile phones and the Internet increased. Because of this, people ask for the situation by calling each other instead of face to face meeting.

Yeah, when internet was slow and limited, we were 'forced' to think creatively and do something to ease the boredom and I think that really made it fun. With internet being accessible, all those dopamine stuff is being fed to us just by opening social media. I just realized it's so tiring.

Ohh not to mention how much we just not meet anymore cos we can just use our phones. In-person meeting is still so much better.

I just thinks in what will happens when the access to will be a dependency. Now we have yet a lot of activities out of the network but, that will be there in 20 years?
