A TBT Meaningful to Me

Always in our lives memorable moments, do not forget them, I remember when I was a teenager, I had a time separated from the world because I did not know what to do with my life, and I remember that I liked to paint and spent long hours locked in my room drawing lines and doodles and that filled me completely.

Un TBT Significativo Para Mí

Siempre en nuestras vidas los momentos memorables, no los olvida, recuerdo que cuando era adolescente, tuve un tiempo separada del mundo porque no sabía qué hacer con mi vida, y recuerdo que me gustaba pintar y pasaba largas horas encerrada en mi cuarto trazando líneas y garabatos y eso me llenaba completamente.

Then, with everything, I resumed my high school studies at night and my life began to change, I took advantage of the opportunities that were offered to me, and one day for some friends I started to work, but I kept painting my doodles. Eventually I got a job where I worked for a long time and there was a year in which the company was celebrating its anniversary and decided to organize a Biennial of Painting, a co-worker was organizing the event, and began to look for participants, all had to be workers of the company.

Después, con el todo, retomé mis estudios de bachillerato de noche y mi vida comenzó a cambiar, aproveché las oportunidades que se me brindaban, y un día por unas amigas comencé a trabajar, pero seguía pintando mis garabatos. Con el tiempo conseguí un trabajo donde estuve mucho tiempo laborando y hubo un año en que la empresa estaba cumpliendo años de fundada y decidieron organizar una Bienal de Pintura, una compañera de trabajo estaba organizando el evento, y comenzó a buscar participantes, todos tenían que ser trabajadores de la empresa.

I told her that I painted, I began to explain the technique I used, and how my paintings were, but that I was embarrassed to expose them because I did not consider them beautiful, they were not painted in oil, nor were they still lifes, or landscapes, my paintings were abstract, and I used crayons and pen, She asked me to take them to her, and the next day I left with my paintings with great sorrow. When I took them to her, my friend was fascinated, she immediately told me that she had a friend who mounted paintings, that day at lunchtime we went to her friend's studio and left the paintings.

Yo le dije que yo pintaba, le comencé a explicar la técnica que utilizaba, y como eran mis cuadros, pero que me daba pena exponerlos por no los consideraba bonitos, no eran pintados a óleo, ni eran bodegones, ni paisajes, mis pinturas eran abstractas, y utilizaba creyones y bolígrafo, ella me pidió que se los llevara, y al otro día me fui con mis pinturas con mucha pena, Cunado se los lleve mi amiga quedo fascinada, de inmediato me dijo que tenía un amigo que montaba cuadros, ese día en hora de almuerzo nos fuimos para el estudio del amigo y dejamos los cuadros.

In three days he had already framed them for me. When he told us, we went to pick them up. I loved the colorful and modern canvases, he used an innovation of three paintings in one. Once we went to pick them up, they remained in custody at work, because they were organizing the showroom.

En tres días ya me los había enmarcado. Cuando nos avisó, los fuimos a retirar. Me encantaron los montos con cañuelas de colores y modernas, utilizó una innovación de tres cuadros en uno. Una vez los fuimos a buscar, quedaron en custodia en el trabajo, porque estaban organizando el salón de exhibición.

When the opening day came, there were many participants, my paintings were different from all the others, “said my co-workers”, because I did not dare to go down to see the exhibition, until the third day that the event closed and my friends encouraged me and I finally went to see the exhibition that early that day I spent before arriving at my job.

Cuando llego el día de la inauguración, había muchos participantes, mis cuadros eran distintos, a todos los demás, “decían mis compañeras de trabajo”, porque yo no me atrevía a bajar a ver la exposición, hasta que paso el tercer día que cerraba el evento y mis amigas me animaban y por fin fui a ver la exposición ese día temprano pasé antes de llegar a mi puesto de trabajo.

I felt small, in front of so many outstanding artists, all the paintings, I considered them beautiful, they were painted in oil, on canvas, the still lifes, landscapes, vases with bouquets of flowers, horses, and many more figures that stood out in those delicate paintings with their beautiful decorative canvases. When I saw mine, I didn't value my work, I didn't think I should be there in front of so many fellow artists. The Biennial ended that day. Around noon the members of the jury came to vote, of course, very well known and knowledgeable people in the field.

Yo me sentía pequeñita, ante tantos artistas destacados, todas las pinturas, las consideré hermosas, fueron pintadas al óleo, sobre lienzo, resaltaban los bodegones, paisajes, floreros con ramilletes de flores, caballos, y muchas figuras más que se destacaban en esos delicados cuadros con sus hermosas cañuelas decorativas. Cuando vi los míos, no valoré mi trabajo, no consideraba que debería estar ahí ante tantos compañeros artistas. Terminó la Bienal ese día. Cerca del mediodía que venían los miembros del jurado a votar, por supuesto, personajes muy reconocidos, y sabedores del tema.

After noon, many of the workers already knew who had won, and the corridors were all very hush-hush. Until a friend of mine warned me that on the day of the awards ceremony I had to be very elegant. And that was how I knew that day that I had won first place, after all I had to recognize my abilities and how great one can be, if we set our minds to it. This TBT, for me, was unforgettable. Then, in the following year, they came back to organize another exhibition and I did not win it because they had to give the opportunity to others. At that time they gave me an Honorable Mention.

Después del mediodía, ya muchos trabajadores sabían quién había ganado, se oía por los corredores todo muy en secreto. Hasta que una amiguita me advirtió que el día de entrega de premios tenía que ir muy elegante. Y fue así como ese día supe que me había ganado el primer lugar, después de todo tuve que reconocer mis habilidades y lo grande que uno puede ser, si nos lo proponemos. Este TBT, para mí, fue inolvidable. Luego, en el siguiente año, volvieron a organizar otra exposición y no la gané porque había que darles la oportunidad a otros. Para ese momento me dieron una Mención Honorífica.
