Papal Audience

Wow, this has been quite a week. If you read me regularly, you know I always try to stay positive and strong, but some days are just too good. Sometimes everything piles up and the situation manages to wipe the smile off my face for a few moments, but since I'm focused on living each day to the fullest, and since today is #TBT (Throwback Thursday), I've decided to reminisce about one of the most important moments of my life, even though it's quite recent. This was the second time we met Pope Leo XIV, but on this occasion, my choir had the privilege of attending the Papal Audience on October 20, 2025.

Wow, esta sí que ha sido una semana fuerte. Si me lees regularmente sabrás que siempre busco la manera de pensar en positivo y mantenerme firme, pero vaya que hay días de días. A veces todo se junta y la situación logra que mi sonrisa se borre por unos instantes, pero como estoy enfocado en vivir mis días a plenitud y aprovechando que hoy es Jueves de #TBT, he decidido rememorar uno de los momentos más importantes de mi vida, aunque es bastante reciente. Este fue el segundo día que coincidimos con el Papa León XIV, pero en esta ocasión, mi agrupación coral tuvo el privilegio de asistir a la Audiencia Papal del 20 de Octubre de 2025.

As a Catholic, I can assure you it was an unforgettable experience. Fate brought us to the Vatican now that the new Pope is in office, but I would have loved to see Pope Francis. In fact, it was thanks to him that we traveled to Rome, since he was the one who proposed the canonization of the Venezuelan saints, and it was one of the last things he approved before he died that Monday, after Easter Sunday. I confess we waited many hours for Pope Leo to appear, but it was a wait well worth it, and the excitement was palpable in the Paul VI Hall, which was full of people from various countries. But we Venezuelans certainly stood out, from our clothing to our spontaneous joy 🤣

Como católico, les puedo asegurar que fue una experiencia inolvidable. El destino quiso que conociéramos el Vaticano ahora que está el nuevo Papa, pero me habría encantado ver al Papa Francisco, de hecho, gracias a él fue que viajamos hasta Roma, ya que fue quien propuso la canonización de los santos venezolanos, y de hecho fue de las últimas cosas que aprobó antes de morir aquel Lunes, luego del Domingo de Pascua. Confieso que esperamos muchas horas que el Papa León apareciera, pero fue una espera que valió la pena, y la emoción vibraba alto en la Sala Pablo VI, la cual estaba llena de gente de diversos países, pero vaya que nosotros los venezolanos nos hacíamos destacar, desde nuestra vestimenta, hasta nuestra espontánea alegría 🤣

Our hotel was in Fiumicino, so we had to leave before five in the morning, since we were singing the first Mass of the day at St. Peter's Basilica at eight. I don't even know how we managed to raise our voices, after several nights of late nights in Rome, but they were all enjoyable. We waited two hours for the Pope, and we were only with him for about 15 minutes. There were so many people, and since we were with the children's orchestra, we sat quite far from the platform. The tiredness was evident in the dark circles under my eyes; my smile never faded, but it was enough that I didn't want to make the effort to chase after the Pope to try and take a picture with him. So I preferred to listen to him and receive his blessing from a distance.

Nuestro hotel quedaba en Fumicino, así que tuvimos que salir antes de las cinco de la mañana, ya que cantábamos la primera misa del día en la Basílica de San Pedro a las ocho, no sé ni cómo nos salió la voz, ya que fueron varios días de trasnocho en Roma, pero todos placenteros. Al Papa lo esperamos dos horas, y realmente estuvimos con él unos 15 minutos. Había mucha gente, y como estábamos con os niños de la orquesta nos sentamos muy retirados de la tarima. El cansancio se nota en mis ojeras, no se borraba mi sonrisa, pero era suficiente como para no hacer el esfuerzo de perseguir al Papa para intentar tomarme una foto con él, así que preferí escucharlo y recibir su bendición a distancia.

On gray days and weeks like the ones that threaten to envelop me today, I try to focus on these beautiful experiences; moments that bring me back to that energy and passion for loving what I do, loving my work and my country. Since I was a child, I watched Pope John Paul II; he even visited Caracas in the 90s, but my family lived in another city. We felt it as a blessing, and now that I know this place and have witnessed these people and the energy they exude, I am convinced that there has always been a mission for me, something that has been with me since childhood, and I know there is still more. That's why I must focus on the positive and on gratitude, because I feel close to God and because we need many people eager to change the world and make it a better place, even with a small contribution. I hope to share more about the architecture and surroundings of the Hall where I experienced my Papal Audience later on Worldmappin ❤️

En días y semanas grises como los que quieren arroparme hoy, trato de enfocarme en estas hermosas vivencias; momentos que me regresan a esa energía y esa pasión de amar lo que hago, amar mi trabajo y mi país. Desde niño veía al Papa Juan Pablo II, incluso visitó Caracas en los 90's, pero mi familia vivía en otra ciudad. Lo sentimos como una bendición, y ahora que conozco este lugar y he presenciado a estas personas y la energía que desbordan, estoy convencido de que siempre hubo una misión para mí, algo que me acompaña desde niño, y sé que aún hay más, por eso debo estar enfocado en lo positivo y en la gratitud, porque me siento cercano a Dios y porque necesitamos muchas personas con ganas de cambiar el mundo y convertirlo en un mejor lugar, así sea con un pequeño aporte. Espero compartir más adelante en Worldmappin un poco más de la arquitectura y los alrededores de la Sala donde viví mi Audiencia Papal ❤️
