CCC's Street Art Contest #305 - Sparrows - Odeith, Damaia - Portugal
Good evening, friends!
Welcome to another post in the Street Art community!
A week ago, I shared a piece by this same artist right here in this community. Last week, I ended up visiting a town very close to Amadora, which is a neighboring parish. I’m talking about Damaia. It’s a residential area and, frankly, one of the oldest commuter towns for many people who work in Lisbon.
More than twenty years ago, I used to come to this area often, since my uncle and my cousins lived right next door. And their house was very close to this sports complex with swimming pools.
Last weekend, on Saturday, I went to a school gym because of an ad I’d seen on Google News announcing that the national boxing championship would be held there. Since I’d never attended such an event before, I ended up giving in to my curiosity and heading over to the gym. The ad mentioned that the sporting event would take place on Saturday and Sunday, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. But when I arrived at the venue where the event was taking place, just past 6 p.m., I noticed that all the bouts scheduled for that day had already been fought, and that they would resume the next day to complete the bouts leading up to the final.
Since I’d already made plans with my mom to have lunch with her on Sunday and go for a walk afterward, I knew I wouldn’t have a chance to return to the arena the next day, so I decided to head back home. I remembered catching a glimpse of a really interesting mural right by the Damaia swimming pools, but I hadn’t been able to stop so as not to be late for the boxing event. So now I had the perfect opportunity.
I parked the car, and even though the graffiti’s location wasn’t ideal—since the buildings aren’t perfectly aligned, which makes it hard to get the right framing—I think I managed to capture the details of the piece there. Back home, I edited the photos to see if I could get a little more out of them, so they would do justice to the quality of the artwork.
This artist has many works scattered across various neighborhoods in the region, since he lived in this area until he was 18. In this same neighborhood, it seems that while he was working on this piece, he was often approached by old friends who came to say hello and catch up.
What do you think of this piece? Doesn’t it almost remind you of a scene from an action movie with martial arts as the main theme? Even the orange circle on which the two birds are perched lends the entire scene an impressive sense of drama and realism.
The details the artist uses—from the feathers to the texture and color of the animals’ bodies, as well as their poses—have all been carefully thought out, and in the end, they’ve left this mark that, unfortunately, isn’t permanent, but will remain for a few more years, withstanding the elements.
For those who haven't seen my previous post—also featuring the artist Odeith—here's the link to it, as well as to the other three posts I've made previously featuring this artist's work:

I recently came across a website that lists the street art pieces painted recently in the municipality of Amadora.
I’m hoping to have the chance this coming weekend to visit a spot where I can photograph and capture yet another fantastic work of art.

Another beautiful mural with these two birds. Maybe a boxing match in their category 😀 Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.
