Mexican Murals - Low Profile Art in Tacubaya [CCC's Street Art Contest #251]

Not too far from where I live in Mexico City you can find the neighborhood of Tacubaya. With its converging metro lines and numerous bus lines, the place has sprouted and maintained a multitude of vendors, ranging from simple tents, to stalls, to actual stores, all of which seem to be changing occupants at a regular pace. Occasionally you'll see a store get shut down, boarded up, but never for too long. I'm sure that will be the fate of this abandoned store, with its less than spectacular images. Might be a good reason to preserve them in the blockchain.

The exact location of this image is on Ave. Jalisco, just across from Manuel Reyes Veramendi, as you can see on #WorldMapPin. By the way, I'm now realizing that at some point 'El Micky' was a place for food and dancing, but that is certainly of the past, since this place is as abandoned as can be. Or who knows, maybe it isn't? I guess I should come back when it's supposedly open...

Unlike the majority of my mural collection (visit Mexican Murals to see the whole list), where impressive pictures and skillful artistry was my motivating focus, this time it was the exact opposite that made me want to share the image. And though they may be described with any demeaning adjective, I think they still deserve a bit of a closer look - if only to study their limitations.

Mickey, Garfield, and Pepe

While on street level the entire facade was tagged over with Caspar Ghosts, some type of devil characters, and enormous Mickey lettering, above we can see some other familiar faces: A green Garfield on the left, and on the right a slightly crazy Mickey Mouse performing as the Sorcerer's Apprentice. Just to his left a Pepe head is looking, detached like a balloon. In the two top corners some aliens are posing, complete with the spray-can, the means of creating this art.

As low profile as these image may be, I think they are still an interesting addition to the weekly +HSBI CCC's Street Art Contest , where most entries actually feature incredible street art from around the world. They could be gigantic pictures spanning whole buildings. They may have photo-realistic detail. In many cases they actually have some kind of interesting message to share. AND... if you submit a post to the contest, you could even win some cool prizes. But be careful: The deadline is ... actually just about now. So I guess I'll wait a few minutes for the new prompt post to be published, and use this in next week's contest.
