Whanganui a Town of Street Art - Part 3 (7 photos)

This has been a post in three parts, over a last few weeks, but we are back in Whanganui, a town about two hours drive north of Wellington for the final installment, and the final 7 art pieces.

There is a concerted effort in this town to support the arts generally and street art in particular. I had read about it before I went, it was not the reason I went but it was a nice by product and a nice thing to do on an Easter Monday late afternoon when the town was largely deserted.

This piece was a 'street' as the pieces got, most we very mural arts rather than tags, name pieces and the typical street art imagery.

I mean it was more of this stuff, the sort of artwork that could lead children into a kindergarten or alike. I like the purple door at the end.

Or like this a wonderful stylized penguin parade, I love how this uses the surrounds so well.

This piece was probably my favourite of all. For those who have not been to New Zealand you may not understand the importance of Maori Culture and the blending of the the traditional first nations cultures and the white culture of the colonisers. This is a nice piece which shows this presence. This woman has a Chin Tattoo, because I'm not a good NZ white man I needed to google it to tell you about it - In Māori culture, a chin tattoo, known as moko kauae, is a significant and sacred practice, particularly for women. It represents a woman's connection to her family (whānau), social status, and whakapapa (genealogy). Moko kauae is a physical manifestation of a woman's true identity and her leadership role within her community

Back to the humour and who doesn't love a metal fist being piloted by, well whatever creature that is.

This is also pretty outstanding, the scale of this thing is almost, the detail.

And finally, this, poor grammar aside I love the comic book nature of this, or maybe it's the idea of that is the type of style bands used to use in the 90's to advertise their gigs., maybe the Ridgeway Burns has a exciting new album about commuting whales.

Great selection of StreetArt with stunning murals especially the whale with the rabbit. It looks like the style of Phlegm. Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.

Have a great day
