STREET ART #257 – Project 17 Walls are presenting 17 works based on UNs 17 sustainable goals nr. 5 and 6, Aarhus, Denmark

Today I continue with the next two global goals murals. They are located close to each other. The first is a difficult to get a good view of. The photo on the web siste to the project is much better. It shows the whole mural.
quote
Those who are behind the project has had a purpose. They invited artists to paint mural that illustrate each of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in order to make the goals accessible to everyone. The founders have a belief about art being able to inspire in a way that words can't. Because the SDGs affects the intire globe, the founders had invited artist from different countries.
This painting is inspired by world Global Goal nr. 5 «Gender equality»

Artist: Hera, Germany
If you know the Danish fairy tale author H.C. Andersen, you will instantly recognize some of the stories in Hera's mural. He is the most famous fairy tale author in Denmark. Hera has let herself to be inspired by his stories. Andersen was critical of the society he lived in (lived from 1805 - 1875) and this shines through his fairy tales. He was particularly concerned with abuse, exploitation and how the socially outcasts were treated. In Hera's painting we see several of the fairy tales. But it is the story of "The Little Girl with the Brimstones" that dominates. The fairy is about a little girl who, without success, was supposed to sell matches. To stay warm, she lit the matches herself one by one until she slowly froze to death. It is this little girl that Hera paints here, but she lets her use what she has of knowledge and wisdom, as well as time. The girl thus uses her abilities to build a bridge that can support herself. She is not alone. She is together with several of H.C. Andersen's fairytale characters, who were also outcasts in his stories - "The Ugly Duckling" and "Tommelise". Hera hereby proposes that we should all share what we have of knowledge, wisdom and resources, and at the same time understand that the need to feel valued is different from person to person.

Hera (Jasmin Siddiqui) was born in 1981 in Frankfurt. Because of her half German and half Pakistani background, she has a half Muslim and half Catholic upbringing. She is a graphic designer by education and uses different media when creating artwork. She has received great recognition for her urban art and I think she is well-known to everyone interested in street art. We see that she combines several techniques when painting. The themes in her works often tend towards social awareness and political injustice. Her works are seen all over the world, whether she has worked alone or as the other half of the duo Herakut. Many of her works have been exhibited in art museums, including in Stavanger, Norway, where I have seen several of her works. But also in Istanbul, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and as part of "Artists for Human Rights" in the European Parliament in Brussels, as well as many more places.

Artist: Ronmuralist, Argentina
This little girl is floating in calm water. She has a water tap right behind her, which ensures that running water is constantly poured into the lake she sits in. She is holding a balloon in her hand, which contrast the rest of the colors in the painting. The mural has a certain harmony in both the colors and the calm atmosphere, where the water is constantly renewed. The painting says something about how we should be aware of how we relate to the environment around us, as well as how we use drinking water. We must both value and take care of the continuous cycle of water. Not least for future generations.

The artist, Martín Ron was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1981. He did his very first large painting in Buenos Aires, where he also studied art. He is world-renowned and has painted gigantic works around the world. (I have seen some off his work in Aalborg, Denmark). From 2010, he has had a function as artistic director of a program called "Urban Embellishment". As part of this program, he worked in collaboration with lots of different artists. Together theycreated over 250 murals. His works are large and often in a style with strong colors. He also works with 3D technology. An effect that gives more realism to what he creates. But he also paints on canvas. He is known for his works all over the world, but has also participated in a number of street art festivals.

It's truly a superb series, and these two murals prove it once again. It's funny, but both artists passed through Montreal, and their work is still visible. They're truly talented. Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.
Have a great weekend

I am not surprised to learn they have works on the walls in Montreal. Both have done awesome work in both in Denmark and Norway.
