Glacial Rivers
Continuing from the Wetlands post I will head into the mountains today and set foot on some snowy terrain
The landscape has changed since the last couple of days. It is now hillier (I think to call the hills mountains are a bit of an exaggeration as they are only perhaps 200-400 higher than my altitude, peaking at perhaps 1.5km in height). Fortunately my hiking trail is not too difficult to manage and it is up to the hiker to walk a bit off the beaten path to explorer the small glaciers and rockier terrains. Of course I could not withstand going there so I also walked though small rivers and on glaciers. The landscapes are vast here and it is easy to feel small. So it was nice to occasionally meet some people here. But often this was just a very brief encounter which started and ended with a "hej".
On this day the weather turned briefly colder and cloudier. In fact there was an incoming smaller storm front which started with this grey wall of clouds. Looking pretty ominous! In fact, while it was June this storm brought snow which, however, did not remain on the grounds.
The rest of the day was again sunny and with this change in atmosphere my mood lifted as well. I should now cross rivers and barren landscapes with patches of snow.
And where snow lies there are often glacial rivers... This one was absolutely freezing, but refreshing. The way the water breaks on these stones is remarkable and I just stood here for a while and appreciated the beauty of this place. I am thankful that there are still these untouched places on Earth as they are a source of harmony and inspiration. In the next post I will finish the tour and again walk into civilization which after 10 days I was happy to see again!
