The Last of Portugal

avatar

This will be my last post about Portugal I swear. It's all of my remaining photos from all of our destinations in the country. I plan to do something similar to my previous post - Trip Extras which was a photo dump with only brief verbage on some locations that stood out, the highlights if you will. So here goes, starting with Coimbra.

Coimbra

20220509_131510~2.jpg

This was a run down alleyway with some construction work happening directly off a main square.

20220509_131515~2.jpg

It was dark and grungy looking and I liked it (for some reason).

20220509_120018~2.jpg

Clothes hanging from the windowsill. Everyone knows I like that sort of thing.

Porto

Here's a few leftovers from Porto.

20220510_151402~2.jpg

This old red phone booth really stood out for me, both in color and design. It reminded me of the ones that I've seen on British television shows. Maybe all European countries had this style of red phone booth back in the day though?

20220510_151425~2.jpg

It looked super colorful and urban within the setting and with the graffiti painted over it.

20220510_151433~2.jpg

What I like about these next few were the old satellite dishes.

20220510_130026~2.jpg

I don't know what it is but I have a thing for old satellite dishes and aerials.

20220510_151238~2.jpg

They sort of make a mess of the rooftops but there is a strange beauty to them as well, like old memories.

20220510_150802~2.jpg

This one was probably taken with the plan to add it to a windows post, but is also has a satellite dish so here it is.

20220510_161628~2.jpg

Lisbon

I'll start with a few cityscapes.

20220513_135052~2.jpg

You can see why these didn't make the cut for my main Lisbon post.

20220513_130517~2.jpg

This next one (below) is maybe slightly more interesting because of the framing.

20220513_141657~2.jpg

This giant moon was a neat art piece we saw hanging outside a museum.

20220510_130517~2.jpg

I don't know what it was made of or anything about it other than it was cool and different.

20220510_130544~2.jpg

This is the sort of thing that we would just srumble upon while walking through a city. I'll pop down nooks and crannies to explore and to see if there is anything interesting to look at. Sometimes I find cool stuff and sometimes I don't.

20220513_161913~2.jpg

I really liked this archway but I wasn't satisfied with either photo.

20220513_161857~2.jpg

I was standing too close when I took the picture and cut off the roof and/or the gateway through the Arch.

20220514_180059~2.jpg

I liked the contrast of the blue doors with the yellow tiles in the next one and also the symmetry of the design of the fountain. The photo is slightly crooked and the fountain slightly off center which bothers me. I could probably fix it but it's posted now.

20220513_133541~2.jpg

"Hey, I thought you said that this would be minimal verbage?"

20220513_161423~2.jpg

I guess I lied about that part. Every picture gets an explanation!

20220513_161516~2.jpg

I really liked the bridge below when I saw it. It was a walkway that lead to a set of apartments or shops and was situated above a large set of stairs.

20220513_142041~2.jpg

I'm not satisfied with the photo though. It doesn't look like anything really.

20220513_135129~2.jpg

I like this next photo of a bridge though. We passed it while walking from Belém to Lisbon.

20220514_181021~2.jpg

It reminded me of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

20220514_181435~2.jpg

It was massive and we walked right under it.

20220514_182737~2.jpg

We ended up walking up an off ramp while heading back to our hotel. This was a busy road so we were lucky that it was empty when we decided to walk up the middle of it. There must have been a red light up ahead preventing cars from using it at the time. It wasn't the smartest of moves.

20220514_182830~2.jpg

I liked the colors (obviously). Why else would I take the shot?

20220513_140416~2.jpg

A random park in the city.

Heading Home

20220515_130932~2.jpg

When we landed back in Paris we stopped and had to wait in a que for a few moments. It's sort of strange being stuck in traffic in an airplane. It's not everyday that you get to see a plane take off from your window though.

20220515_130848~2.jpg

Well thats it for now. This was my last post from our trip to Portugal. The next stop will be Spain! Until then, thanks for stopping by. Goodbye Portugal.

I love your pictures, and I really understand you when you said “this is gonna be the last post about Portugal”, lol. I also have many posts about my trips, and I realized that actually Hive is a great place where to build the place to have your memories from your trips and take a look at them whenever you want.

It seems that you loved this country, I want to visit it!!

Yeah I agree. Hive is a great place to create an online journal of our cmvacations and life in general.

Yeah we really enjoyed Portugal. It's worth a visit for sure.

Yeah the moon was cool. The satellite dishes are pretty much relics from the past at this point. Funny, because they really aren't that old. They came and went pretty quick in the grand scheme of things lol

It's a good thing they did they were quite the sight!

Yeah the funny thing is that I still have one attached to the front of our house from the previous owners 🤣 it's an eye sore so I really should remove it. I get lazy about it and then I forget and now 6 years later it's still there haha

Hahaha, get it moved! You can repurpose it into done kind of fancy grill plate 🤣🤣

That's not a bad idea haha. I don't know if I'm allowed to have a fire in my backyard though, in my city lol
A bird bath would work if we didn't have mosquitoes in Canada. They just turn into a mosquitoe breeding pool lol

Scotland is so wet you can have a fire anywhere just about. I think you even get a medal if you can get one started 😀😀

A bird bath would have been good if not for them pesky little critters!

The red phone booth is totally only in the UK. Not that they don't have them in other places, they just aren't natural born there.

I love clothes hanging from the upper windows. It reminds me of going to visit my relatives (who were Portuguese, but, my Italians were the same!) in Providence, Rhode Island when it was not as pretty. Long story short, that is the way city people hang their laundry (and Europeans), and Amish... well, you get it. It is normal in my world, but, I love it! I take pictures of it too.

I love Portugal and Europe. Can I go back to live? It is not the same as it once was, so it would be different, but, still, what a cool experience.

You will never forget these days. Ever.

Your posts have been fun and certainly entertaining. Thank goodness for the blockchain, I can go back and look at what I missed.

Yeah I actually want to start air drying clothes when possible just for the sustainability of it. Sometimes we take the convenience aspect of life a little too far it seems so id lkke to try and do some more sustainable practices.

I have always dried clothes that way and the do last longer! Ibdo have a drier, but I got several drying rack in Germany that unfold to make it larger and use them in winter. We have many housing areas that dont allow clothes lines! Ibdo have one up at the shore house though.

I agree and glad you will be doing it. Plus- your clothes smell better! Fresh!!

I think that there are places here that don't allow clothes lines as well. I don't know the reason for it. Is it an aesthetics type thing or are their safety reasons?

Hell yeah Leaky. Thats some good ones man. The booth is cool. I just dont know how i feel about graffiti sometimes though, its just me. In some places, art, i get it. Other places, feel like its people who dont care that they destroy a little. Blah blah.

Otherwise, solid shots, you have a good eye for photo opportunity. The bridge def looks like the golden.

I know what you mean about the graffiti and agree with you. The messy tags looks like shit a lot of times. Basically just sloppy vandalism lol. I'm more into street art.

it's a shame buildings don't get cleaned and maintained. there's some very nice architecture, and its all covered with moss and dirt.

Yeah some aren't well maintained. Sometimes I like the look of even when its grungy, if it suits the area. If it adds character

Seems like a gritty side of town that I like...
So many things piqued my interest here: the clothes hanging from the window, for a start; how the heck do they get them across the line up that high? The silver moon is super interesting... And the telephone booth; I absolutely love them... So much so, that this is what my mobile case looks like 😅

Yeah I'm not sure how they hang them. I never seen people actually doing it. Just the aftermath lol.

That is a cool case 😎👌
Those phone booths have so much character to them

regarding the clothes; the lines are set up on sideways pulleys.
it's the screeching noises they usually make when they're old that you need to worry about :D

Haha! I wondered if it was a pulley for real...I love to see it in action, and I bet the noise drives everyone around crazy 🤣

i mean, it's rare that they screech - i live in front of a building with possibly 30 indidivual lines, and one used to screech - still, something fierce. drove my dogs crazy

I love Portugal, the look of its streets. Some may think they look old and dirty, but I find them so charming.
Your pictures are gorgeous :)

Yeah I'm going to start posting about a few places I went to in Spain a while back. That was back in May. I still have a major backlog of trip locations I can post about. It will seem like I still live in Europe probably until sometime in 2023 lol. Not trying to brag or anything lol.

We don't mind reading about Portugal and seeing your photos. Aerials remind me of the days when we used to have them in our place too now it's all about cables and more cables and some satellites too.
