Travel notes. Andomsky Pogost
Andomsky Pogost is a village in Vytegorsky district of Vologda region, the center of Andomsky rural settlement.
The village is located next to the A119 highway on the banks of the Andoma River.
The distance to Vytegra (district center) is 32 km along an asphalt highway.
More than 600 people live here.
The Andoma River originates from Grontozero, has a length of 150 km, flows into Lake Onega.
In general, a churchyard (pogost) is not originally a cemetery, but an ordinary administrative unit in Russia for collecting taxes.
This is a kind of moving place for trade from nearby surrounding villages to a more huge village, where tribute collectors were sent.
Over time, when the pogost grew, a parish church was built in it.
And with that, there was a need for cemeteries (churchyards).
Only later it turned out incorrectly that the cemetery at the church was considered a graveyard.
In general, Andomsky Pogost is a simple and cozy place where life is felt.
I liked it only by the river.
I would like to visit another slightly more ancient churchyard – the village of Saminsky Pogost, which is a little further on the Samina River, which flows into the Andoma.
There is a wooden bridge and a wooden church.
And here the church is stone, and the bridge is metal ...
But I did not come here of my own free will, but for work.
A large house of culture has opened in the Andomsky Pogost to the delight of local residents.
And I just took a walk and briefly looked at the village.
