Hill. The village on the hill
Honestly, it's already scary to publish posts about villages, since I've never posted so much. I'm already trying to give out all the material as quickly as possible and move on to another one, I even started publishing two posts a day, but they don't end. This time it will not be as boring as before.
Hill is a village in Veliky Ustyugsky district of Vologda region, belongs to the Yudinsky rural settlement.
Veliky Ustyug is 12 km away.
In general, I have been trying to take pictures of the Hill for many years. And every time I drive by, I haven't decided to get out of the car.
The village stands on the banks of the Striga River near a high hill.
People live in the village itself, there are all kinds of forest equipment.
There is also a road through the Hill to cultivated farmland.
There is also a road to the quarry through the Hill, but I found out about this later and haven't told you yet.
There is one street in the village, but the houses are scattered at different heights.
There is one house on the other bank of the river Striga.
Well, we have to climb the hill!
It feels like there were houses there once. And according to the map of tracts in Wikimapia, the Hill is much larger than it is now. I'm talking about the village again. And the hill turned out to be very high!
As soon as I took a deep breath and regained my breath after climbing, my chest started pounding again from what I saw – from the top of the hill, the most beautiful expanses for tens of kilometers open up!
The village of Budrino and the nearby village of Kulatino, also located on a hill, are visible.
But my hill is higher!!
I also tried to see the abandoned villages of Hummock and Ilyinskaya in the distance through the telephoto lens and magnification on the camera display...but to no avail, because I was pointing the camera a little bit in the wrong direction.
I see people here didn't bother with names – Hummock, Hill, Slide...
Now we have to go back, that is, go down the hill back to the Hill. I initially saw that a road rolled up by large machinery departs from the arrival in the village, but I did not assume that it was hiding behind bushes there.
And I had a plan to return along this road, skirting the village from the top of the hill. But after walking a little across the field, an obstacle appeared in front of me ... in the form of a vertical cliff a couple of tens of meters high!
And there is an excavator at the bottom. So there is an active sand quarry located here. That's all great, but how do you get down? I had to walk around the edge of the quarry, simultaneously observing the amazing steep walls.
I was able to find a safe descent only in an already abandoned quarry, which is moving from the current one.
Immediately I was attracted by the huge sandstone boulders lying on the ground, and then I studied the layers of the oldest sand deposits a little.
These are the impressions the Hill gave me.
Magnificent views! Love the autumn-coloured trees! 🍁😊
