Tura Head Rockpool: Tura Beach, AUSTRALIA
A few days ago, my oldest daughter when fishing with her cousins on their boat in the local river... but the little one wasn't keen to do it. They didn't have enough life vests anyway, so she wouldn't have been able to even if she wanted to!
Anyway, that meant that she was going to spend some quality time with her parents... and not playing Switch in the same room! After searching around, I found something that I knew she would like. She loves climbing around on the beach rocks... and hates walking. My wife is the exact opposite, and I think it is funny when we go on the rocks as a family, as the little one is trying to instruct my wife and to keep her calm about the jumps and edges!
So, I had found a rockpool that involved a bit of clambering around in a nearby beach head, and I suggested that we go and do that!
... but first, a little walk. Through a weirdly arched area of beach trees...
The walk from the tiny carpark to the rocks was about 700 metres... and about half way there, there was this little outlook....
... and a pretty damn stunning view! I'm not sure why we don't come to this beach more often? Well... probably because it is a 20 minute drive away instead of a short walk... but it looks amazing! From a distance...
If you look closely... there are always the crazy fishermen who set up shop right down on the rocks. Lucrative, but dangerous... a couple of months ago, there were people killed after they got swept away. I don't think they found all the bodies?
... and finally, we made it to the rock headland. The little one was so excited to get to the rocks, that she forgot to complain about the walk leading up to it!
A little clamber down to the first of the rockpools... but this one was too high up to have anything interesting in it.
Mostly quite salty... but still lots of interesting things for us to discover!
And not so far away, we could see the larger waves crash against the rock point... yep, keep a bit of distance there!
It wasn't quite high tide, but we were about 5 hours short of it... so, the waves were retreating quite a fair way back... exposing quite a large expanse of rock, before swarming and crashing back in. Quite mesmerising to watch... from a distance!
We did head downwards to a protected area, with a very different colour of rock formations, and there were more interesting living things in these pools... these ones were being refreshed with each high tide I think!
But our exploration was cut a little short... incoming rain, definitely didn't want to be caught out on the exposed rocks when that came in... too slippery to be safe. So, we headed back in... and got a well deserved hot chocolate!

That looks like a fun afternoon outing.
Did the eldest daughter catch any fish?
Almost! She had a bite and started to get it in... but lost it!
Rough😂
This looks like a beautiful area! A bit scary that folks got washed away, but I guess that is just a good reminder about the power of the ocean.
It is quite scary how powerful the ocean is... you get the rips and the smashing against rocks... Definitely would pummel a flesh puppet easily!
For sure!
