All the Lonely Socks- Where do They all Go to?

Why I keep a sock without a mate is beyond me! That mate never turns up, yet I still keep it in a special shoebox. I had a vast collection; some belonged to my late hubby, my sons who left home eons ago, and am proud to say, not one of those lonely socks belong to me!

We often find lonely socks in my Airbnb and those get tossed with immediate effect; don't even want to touch them!

No guessing what tops the charts for lost and found guest items!
Socks and cell phone chargers regularly vie for the top position, but socks win most of the time!

When I started decluttering recently, I was brave enough to throw out my collection of socks-without-a-mate! I've done it before, and always feel guilty, as they could warm someone's feet in winter. Many people would not mind wearing odd socks; some walk around with holy socks, by that I mean socks with holes! So I always put them in a separate bag and hope the bag-pickers find them.

Imagine walking the ice-cold streets without socks!

Have you ever thought about the big role socks play in our lives, yet they're the least appreciated clothing in our drawers?
Yep, I kid you not, but you know that already, right!
So treat them with extra care, and look out for those mates who fall by the wayside!

Men take the prize for losing socks. When I can't find a lost and lonely sock crying out for its partner, I immediately start looking for its partner. They always pop up in the most unexpected places, stuck to the washing machine drum or hiding in the tumble dryer.
Men's socks always land under the bed!

I'm supposed to be telling you about my collection of socks, as requested by the lovely @mipiano in her New Year prompt for Hive Collectors, so I'll put on my cozy socks, and walk back so I can tell you about my small collection.

As we live in a mild climate, I don't own any knee-high socks or tights as we occasionally still have unexpectedly hot days even when in the middle of winter.

I love my bed socks for cold winter nights, walking on cold tiled floors is a shock to my tootsies;)
Some were gifts. My favourite is the charcoal ones with the dog face; they're stretched to the limit, but always are my first choice. No pressure on the poor ankles, fluffy and keeps me warm!

There's a raggedy pair of blue bedsocks peeping out - another well-worn favourite that's kind to the ankles;)

The lilac slipper socks were a gift from a thoughtful friend and are ideal when walking around the house at night, and are non-slip so I don't go flying when walking on the tiled or wooden floor!

A special friend gave me Irish sneaker socks when she went across the waters to visit her daughter, they're very colourful compared to the usual black socks that I wear with my sneakers.

Last but not least, I have quite a number of these black sneaker socks that I wear most of the time in winter.

That's all I can tell you about my socks collection, and as you saw, I have some very old loyal socks that never let me down. I treat them well and don't let them lie forgotten underneath beds, inside washing machines, tumble dryers, or hiding away when they're tired of being stood on, and abused;)

Hello friend @lizelle. You made me remember those moments when one loses a sock and the hassle of looking for it all over the house. What a laugh when you mentioned that men's socks always end up under the bed, that is so true.
I showed the pictures of the socks you are showing and my daughters liked all of them without exception.

Hahaha, I can just imagine how many socks you have found 😂
Oh once I forgot a skirt and a shirt in one Airbnb. It was many years ago, we were with our little son in the mountains. I contacted them when I arrived home and realized I had forgotten those garments, and the owners were kind enough to mail me the package with my clothes. 😃

My washing machine also likes to hide socks 😂 any time we are missing one, we know where to look immediately.

I watched now the short film 😂

Thank you dear @lizelle for your contribution to this topic. I almost forgot to tell you that my favourite is the one with the dog, very cute! I just hope Mr Poe is not jealous when you are wearing those socks :D

Haha, Mr. Poe takes no notice of my socks, he does like my toes though, funny cat! Especially when they're painted red😅
Guests sometimes leave valuables behind, laptops, cash, of course clothing, but the scariest was when a guest called me in a panic. He'd locked his firearm up in the cottage safe. I knew him but still freaked out as I'd not checked it and had given the key to the new guests! I couldn't wait for them to go out so I could check, thank goodness it was still there! He sent a friend to pick it up, but I've posted a number of parcels to guests.
Have a fabulous Friday @mipiano 👌

I get you about the lonely socks! We have a collection in a bag on top of the dryer. Every once in a while, someone will sort them and try to find matches. I used to have a friend who would make dolls with the individual socks, but she doesn't do that anymore. You have a cute collection. I have some fun socks too. A while back, I bought a funny pair at an amazon returns store here - Trump - complete with combable hair and a tiny comb!

That sounds like a fun pair of socks; some people are so creative and also have such a fun sense of humour!
I saw a couple of cartoon sketches where socks without partners sit in group therapy, one complained about people like your friend who turns them into dolls, and ruins their self-esteems for life😅😅😅
Have a lovely day @apanamamama 😉

For whatever reason, some people tend to misplace their socks. Thank goodness my hubby doesn't wear socks in the bedroom or I have to look under the bed too, hehe! I can only imagine the number of your guests' socks ending up in the bin, lol!

I like your sets of socks, they look very comfy. My mom has the same pair as your blue socks :) And the presents from your friend pop up with their colors 💗

It's weird how the socks get lost, I always make sure I put 2 in the wash basket! I now do like wearing my friend's red and green socks😉
Have a great Friday @ifarmgirl 💕

It seems that in an AirBnb you can find many lost objects that better not even touch them haha but the socks take the prize for the disappearances of the year, many times you lose their partner and sometimes they appear a few days later, or directly become a widower haha 😂

I think it's nice to leave the socks in a bag so that those who need them can find them, they are an essential garment in cold weather 🙏

Love the Christmas ones 😍

Thank you for the great feedback @elbuhito, my apologies for only responding now!
Yes, the socks story can easily be related to real life, right?
I hope you're having a good weekend!

How much I enjoyed reading this publication and how much reality expressed in your writing.
It is true that our socks almost always end up under the bed.
Many times, when it comes time to arrange the socks,.after the washed clothes dry some of the pair of these garments are missing.

Thank you very much for sharing and, also, I thank you dear @lizelle, because thanks to you I found this community.
Happy Saturday. Cheers and greetings.

I grinned first thing when I read you kept the odd socks.

It's true for me that I haven't always given extra thoughts to how socks are intertwined in our lives, from beginning to end.

I do however deal with socks daily now that I'm older and the puffy ankle possibilities and the such. Most days I put on a sock that gives a little support and have the grippies on the bottom. It was a little hard for me to get used to that as in my past life, I have always been a barefoot girl, outside when weather allowed, but always inside, even in the winter mostly.

Of course in the past, eventually there were single socks. Most times they stayed in the drawer for a very long time, waiting for the mate to show up from wherever it was hiding and only being tossed after a very long time. It was funny to read this as I have recently gone through the sock dilemma because the sock drawer has just gotten over full and many of the socks I no longer wear as I transitioned to the grippies and the such to wear daily. I almost cleaned it out, only putting back in what I actively wear. I didn't finish though and now have a laundry basket of matched socks, waiting for my next decision on them.

😂

I enjoyed seeing your collection. Fun post!

Hi @jacey.boldart, I'm catching up on replies, am mortified that I missed your comment!
Glad you enjoyed it AND that you reunited the socks with their partners😅
The socks story can also relate to real life, and how people treat each other, if you look deep enough😉
I also enjoy walking barefoot, in fact do that a lot in summertime, as right now. It's sooo hot here!
I hope you're keeping your tootsies warm, have a great weekend Jacey💕
