Proof of start of my watch collection
Just to proof that I haven't forgotten about sharing my watch collection, this is my proof of start. I started writing about my watch collection at the beginning of the month, and typically this is how long it takes me to write a post nowadays.
My personal watch collection
I have actually written a few posts about my watches back in the very early days. Hubs and I had quite a watch collection but we're gradually selling them now. Here's a few that I've still got. I've included the link to the previous post for each of them.
The first watch I want to share is my Concord, it's a very elegant and ladylike watch, which sadly I don't have many opportunity to wear nowadays.
The Cartier is the first proper watch I bought for myself when I got my first pay check. The full story can be found here if you're interested. It's a quartz, not mechanic watch, but still works very well today and holds special meaning to me.
Rolex is probably the most prestigious and well known watch brand to the general public. I inherited my Rolex from my father in law, the full story can be found here. In future, I will pass this onto one of his three grandsons.
This Omega is very dear to me because it used to belong to my late mother. It's a beautiful classic watch, you'll find more details about it here. I plan to gift this to my nephew's (my brother's son) wife when he gets married in the future because he's the only grandson that carries the family name.
Swatch collection
We have bought a range of Swatch watches over the years. They are fun and affordable and you can get carried away with buying them. I took photos of some of them to sell online recently. Quite a few are sold already. The one in the bottom centre is the most expensive and is selling for over £200 elsewhere on the internet. It cost me a fraction of that years ago.
Atlanta hosted the Olympic games in 1996, and this limited edition collection box was issued by Swatch to commemorate the centennial games. Thirty thousand sets were released, and there are nine watches in each set. I couldn't get the other three watches out from the box without using force, which I didn't want to do in case I broke the box.
America will be hosting the games again in 2028 in Los Angeles. I'm hoping this box collection might gain some interest then. At the moment its price range around £100 to £500.
This set of six watches is called Artist. If you look carefully, you'll see each alphabet on the box spelling out artist. Some years ago, I framed them in a big picture frame and hung it on display at home. I'm gutted that I never took a photo of it because it was very cool. Since then, I've moved around a bit, and they now live back in their box.
Last and not the least, my clock. They're a bit of a rarity in home nowadays. I only have one, and I plan to keep it because it's a very nice one. I bought this in Denmark many years ago, and in typical Nordic style, it's simple yet very cool, and looks like it's floating against the wall.
The minute hand is connected to the outer ring one, and a plate in the centre. The whole piece moves around during the hour. The hour hand is connected to the movement at the back. Some friends say they find it a little difficult to tell the time when they first see the clock. What do you think?
The clock comes in many colours, and I decided to go bold for something so simple to make an impact. Plus, walls are normally painted white, I figured bright orange would make it stand out. It currently lives in my kitchen above my tea shelf, accompanied by my little girl Snowpea. She says Hi and Bye!!
I inherited from my father a great passion for watches. Especially manual-winding watches.
I even wear 2 or 3 different watches a day. A real paranoia, because sometimes it takes me a while to choose what to dress a watch at the moment. A paradox.🫣

Thanks, we used to collect all sorts of stuff when we young. Now starting to declutter things
I remember having a few Swatch watches when I was a kid x_x nothing that fancy though XD
I have a big clock on the wall that sibling dearest bought us as a housewarming gift. It's currently right twice a day as I keep forgetting to change the battery.
I can tell the time on your clock easily enough as I read the angle of the hands not the numbers, the problem I would have is recognising it as a clock as if I just saw that somewhere I don't think I would register it as a clock ^_^; It is very cool though.
Some friends have commented that they didn't realise it was a clock when they first saw it, maybe that's why they couldn't switch to it as a time telling item.
Clock batteries normally last for ages, my one runs on battery as well. I think we change the battery every few years. But then, because of the design, we can't really tell how accurate the time is
Near enough is good enough for the most part right XD
Our clock just uses AA (or is it AAA? I should probably find out and put a new one in x_x).
I've always wanted a fancy watch, but I would be afraid of ruining it. I have a Garmin that I haven't even had a year yet and I am already on my fourth screen protector I think.
Nice watches are becoming more of a rarity nowadays as well, everybody seems to wear some kind of smartwatch. I mainly wear mine for special occasions, which isn't that frequent either
I think that is what I would have to do if I ever got a nice watch, but I don't usually attend many special occasions, so it would likely be a waste.

Sadly, the watches are only worth something if they sell. I've had quite a lot viewings on that £200 one but no interested buyers. And that set of Olympic watch, I think most go for around £200ish which works out around the same price per watch as I've sold the other single old Swatch watches at £20ish each.
The watch that has increased in value the most is probably my husband's Rolex Explorer 2, that's gone up 6x and is a keeper because he really likes it.
Yeah its true that something can be priced at whatever cost, but whether it sells is another story. Good luck with them!

When I was a teenager, one of my classmates had a Swatch watch so I also wanted to get one, until I saw the price and ditched that dream as I realized it would be probably a whole month salary of my parents.

That could be an expensive hobby, but you inherited some nice pieces. I have been through a few watches, but just use my Garmin now. I can still appreciate them though. I can get why things like Swatch are popular and they obviously have their fans.
Hubby used to be quite a big fan of Swatch, that's how our collection started. I guess the expensive pieces we have will come in handy when we gradually offload them. We won't make a profit on most of them, but the cash coming in will be nice as they're still worth something.
I think my dad has an Olympic Swatch. No Rolexes in the family that I know of.

I nearly missed this post because I was traveling—I'm glad I didn't because this is in my wheelhouse. What a cool collection! I remember how popular Swatches were in the 1980's but never managed to get my hands on one. I'd like to get one of the Swatch x Omega pieces. That vintage Omega is pretty amazing, I've always liked rose gold. I owned a vintage 1950's rose gold Omega in the early 2000's but sold it during the Housing Crisis in 2008. Watch collecting is such a rewarding hobby. I've met so many kind people in watch-collecting circles. Since getting the GMT Master ii back in March I don't wear anything else. Sometimes, in certain situations, I've slipped it off and put it in my pocket. That's the only thing that I don't like about it, the attention that it draws sometimes.
