I've titled my photograph Shattered Nature because I'm searching for a powerful image conveyed subtly—through the interaction of a man-made object, fragmented (the mirror), alongside natural beauty (the sky and tree leaves). I tried to ensure every element of the composition and framing echoed the fragmentation of life and nature, composed of opposites. The mirror shard rests on the rough surface of a fallen tree trunk, showing all its texture. Suspended within is the real and the reflected—the destroyed outside the mirror, the reborn within. As if it were a portal to another dimension—an imperfect, broken one. This photo is an attempt to evoke the fragility of ecosystems caught in conflict between the organic and the human. I chose black and white mainly for the immediate drama it can evoke.
