These are recent photos, where this chair is part of my studio and doesn't say much on its own, as it is a simple, metal chair with signs of wear and a practical shape that fulfills its function without attracting attention. It has been with us for many years and is in perfect condition. But when the light in that space is turned on, it falls from above very quickly and something unique happens: a shadow appears.

On the light-colored floor, you can immediately see a round, almost perfect shadow, as if the chair had a larger presence than it appears to have, and that is why it catches the attention of everyone who enters the studio, where it is not an exact copy; it is softer due to the fact that the legs are elongated, blending together, merging into a single dark figure that seems to embrace the floor. It is curious how something so everyday can be transformed simply by the angle of the light, because once the light is turned off, everything returns to normal and the chair remains there waiting to be used.

Esta son fotos recién tomadas, donde esta silla forma parte de mi estudio y no dice mucho por sí sola, ya que es una silla simple, metálica, con marcas de uso y una forma práctica que cumple su función sin llamar la atención, donde ya tiene muchos años con nosotros y está a la perfección. Pero cuando la luz de ese espacio se enciendo cae desde arriba con mucha rapidez y ocurre algo distinto único y es que aparece una sombra.

En el suelo claro, de inmediato se puede observar una sombra redonda, casi perfecta, como si la silla tuviera una presencia más grande de lo que aparenta y por eso llama la atención de todas las personas que entran en el estudio, donde no es una copia exacta; es más suave por el mismo hecho de que las patas se alargan, se mezclan, se funden en una sola figura oscura que parece abrazar el piso. Es curioso cómo algo tan cotidiano puede transformarse solo por el ángulo de la Luz, ya que una vez que se apaga la luz todo vuelve a la normalidad y la silla queda allí a la espera de ser usada.

The shadow gives it weight, transforms it into something else, and anchors it perfectly to the space. Without it, the chair would seem to float in the image, but that dark spot connects it to reality, to the cold, firm floor on which it rests, showing that there is something there that needs to be seen, even if it is just a chair. It is as if it reminds us that every object, no matter how simple, leaves a mark, deserves to be seen, and with these photos I took, it will go far and realize that it can be achieved.

Perhaps sometimes we are all a little like that chair, going unnoticed in the moments when we are not needed, discreet, but most importantly functional and active for whatever is needed of us, where we have to be clear that we will always project something else: a shadow that speaks of our shape, our position, the light that surrounds us. And even though we may not always notice it, it is there, silently accompanying us, for the simple fact that no one is perfect. So this shadow is not the absence of light. It is proof that light exists. And also that something is occupying a place in the world.

La sombra le da peso, la convierte en algo más y se ancla perfectamente al espacio. Sin ella, la silla parecería flotar en la imagen, pero esa mancha oscura la conecta con la realidad, con el suelo frío y firme sobre el que descansa, demostrando qué hay algo allí y que necesita ser visto, así sea una silla. Es como si nos recordara que todo objeto, por sencillo que sea, deja huella, merece ser visto y con estas fotos que les tome llegará muy lejos y darse cuenta de que sí se puede lograr.

Quizás a veces todos somos un poco como esa silla, asamos desapercibidos en los momentos que no nos necesitan, discretos, pero lo más importante funcionales y activo para cualquier cosa que nos necesiten, donde tenemos que tener claro que siempre vamos a proyectar algo más: una sombra que habla de nuestra forma, de nuestra posición, de la luz que nos rodea. Y aunque no siempre la notemos, está ahí, acompañándonos silenciosamente, por el mismo hecho de que nadie es perfecto. Así esta sombra no es ausencia de luz. Es prueba de que la luz existe. Y también de que algo está ocupando un lugar en el mundo.
