The outstanding architectural features seen in the buildings and gates seen during the tour of Talpe.
Hello my fellow Architecture+Design community lovers,
What's up guys? I hope you are starting glorious new week with good activities. As yesterday was a Sunday, it is a statutory holiday. Therefore, the opportunity arose for me to visit another beautiful area that has won the tourist attraction of Sri Lanka. There were a number of recently built tourist resorts and hotels in Talpe, which is located in the southern province. Among them, this content takes an opportunity to describe the architectural elements that I saw in some of the tourist resorts that caught my attention.
It should be mentioned that due to the natural swimming pool located in the sea near the town of Talpe, it has attracted a lot of attention from both local and foreign tourists. Therefore, various lodges can be seen using unique architectural construction concepts for the accommodation and food of tourists. The first thing that came to my attention was a small tourist resort called Rock Fort. Its main headquarters is located in Unawatuna. It has more size and attractive features. It was learned that the gray color has been used for the walls here because the owner prefers the color gray. Opaque glass is used for window covering.
An ornamental tree similar to banana leaves, but different, was seen in the garden. I have no idea about its name. I kindly request anyone who reads this to be informed about this. Especially adding such green friendly concepts to a tourist resort is a factor that adds more advantages.
*With the increase in current tourist attraction, even the old houses have been used to provide the guests as lodges, keeping the old construction concepts as they are, with only some repairs. Such an old house was painted outside and opened for tourists. It could be observed that the door frames are of old tradition. But the concept of asbestos sheets used for its roof is not friendly to visitors. It is important to pay more attention to it.
As we continued along the lodge, we could see the Dutch logo on a wall. It means that it was built during the Dutch colonial period. It is incredible that such an old building can survive so close to the sea. Some of the buildings that are being built nowadays collapse without much time, but see how strong these buildings are.
In the previous visit to Rumassala, as well as in the visit to this Talpe area, we got to see the entrance gates with a unique shape. Strong wood as well as stainless painted steel have been used for this. In my opinion, wooden gates have more appeal.
Next, a tourist resort built following a mixed architectural style called Sun Dawn beach resort drew my attention. Triangular shaped roofs have been created on either side of the entrance gate as in the old temples. The entry space to this resort is kept open. Ancient symbols were engraved on the stone pillars used to support the roofs. I do not know exactly for what purpose Buddhist symbols have been used for them. Something like ceramic stone laid on the floor is used for the walls.
ERA beach and ISHO resorts also have attractive gates and surrounding walls. Decorative vines hanging from the walls of ERA beach create a distinctive character. The above ERA beach and ISHO tourist resorts can be mentioned as tourist resorts with eco-friendly green concept. You can see that through the photos.
Selenya Resort also has a gate with an attractive logo and a whitewashed enclosure wall. Due to the fact that the gates of these were closed, it was not possible to get an idea about the architectural elements inside. However, I will try to explain this as reasonably as I can. Selenya resort is painted in white which seems to bring some charm.
In many tourist resorts built in Talpe area, ornamental flowers and trees have been planted in the gardens and more decoration has been added. That is why it was a remarkable feature that the value of the environment was also increased. The shade of the trees allows the right visitors to enjoy the park easily.
Royal Indigo villa is another beautiful resort. The logo, designed with beautiful neon lights, is eye-catching. The interior of the building is roofed with old Sinhala tiles. Window frames take a traditional shape. Even the inner garden is attractively decorated.
This is another beautiful architectural journey I have spent on yesterday evening. I will come back again with another exploration content.
