Hi me fellow Architecture+Design community lovers,

What's up guys? I really believe that your are doing very well in this new week. Ambalantota is a busy town in the southern province. The town is constantly busy with traffic and daily activities. Usually, overnight stays in such a town are obtained when night falls on the way to see the historic Kataragama sacred site. Traveling at night is risky as wild elephants cross the road after Hambantota. Under such circumstances, choosing Ambalantota for accommodation is convenient. Since night fell when we were leaving for Kataragama, we chose Sobaya Residence, a holiday resort located on "Sabhapathi Road" in Ambalantota town, as it was located right next to the main road. Although this holiday resort is small, I noticed several beautiful architectural features.

Sobaya Residence is located about 1.5 kilometers from Ambalantota town, so there is not much noise. Surrounded by rice fields, it has a quiet environment. A small concrete road runs through it, and there is only a small space for parking vehicles. However, it also appeared that Sobaya Residence is undergoing new renovations.

It was around 9.30pm when we entered Sobaya Residence with our food for the night. Since there were few tourists these days, we were able to easily book a triple room. Since there were only a few guests, only a few lights were turned off inside. The wooden work can be seen in many places in Sobaya Residence. The ceiling and furniture on the roof were made of wood. The lights were mostly installed in the middle of the wall and hanging down from the ceiling. The concrete pillars act as strong supports for the roof.

A separate ironing area was set up for the guests of Sobaya Residence for the convenience of the guests. It will definitely be of great use to guests coming from far away areas. It was also easy for us to iron our clothes for our trip to Kataragama the next day. Although they had reserved a place with a round wooden table inside to receive the food brought from outside, we chose a place outside to get a breeze. Two types of tiles were laid for the floor. An accommodation was set up on the upper floor for the employees of the resort, and we had to go up a steel staircase.

There was a slight breeze in the outdoor area where we ate. There was a large clay pot for collecting garbage. It was seen that even dry leaves falling from the trees were added to this. The addition of chip stone to prevent mud from forming from the water is an advantage. The employees' bathing area is built on the other side of the wooden fence. The pavement is covered with tiles next to the chip stone wall. Inside, sofas etc. were arranged for guests to sit on the ground floor.

Guests staying at Sobaya Residence have table settings on the ground floor and first floor where they can enjoy their meals. Television facilities are also available if desired. Fans are installed in almost every place, so there is no discomfort during dry weather days. The white paint on the walls reflects some light even in dark conditions.

The air-conditioned rooms we booked at Sobaya Residence were on the first floor, so we walked up the stairs to get there. The lights hanging from the wooden ceiling add to the charm of the resort. There were also paintings hanging on some of the walls. Fire extinguishers were also installed on the first floor wall in case of emergency.

Another unique old-fashioned wooden cupboard was found at Sobaya Residence. The carvings on its wooden frame are truly beautiful. Such cupboards can also be seen in old Sri Lankan houses. But it is not clear what the purpose of the cupboard is in this resort. Wooden chairs and tables are also provided on the first floor for dining. The floor is covered with a special modern style tile.

Then we entered our room. It must be said that a sad incident occurred here. When we entered the bedroom, the air conditioner was not turned on, and the remote control did not work, so we complained. After about half an hour, a technical officer came and turned on the air conditioner. It must be said that the bedroom was in a very clean condition. The staff had arranged the sheets and pillows nicely.

The bathroom was also clean inside. It is absolutely important that the sanitary facilities are clean. There was a facility to use hot and cold water as needed. The floor was covered with stone tiles, which added a difference. The feeling of well-being, especially on the feet, is beyond words.
