The Modern Design of the Shrine to St. Jude Thaddeus | Eng-Esp | El Diseño Moderno del Santuario a San Judas Tadeo
Hello everyone. I am very happy to write to you again through this magnificent community where we can express our admiration for architecture and design. All my life I have been carried away by the beauty of incredible structures and buildings, many times more than natural landscapes. I am not the best photographer, but I have fallen into a passion of taking tours and keeping photographic memories, especially of some churches, which have become my favorites. In fact today I want to share with you the church that I have closest to my house in the city of Caracas, I've been wanting to write a post about it for years and well, the time has come.
There are two important things that can be appreciated in the photograph that I used as the cover for this publication. The first is that its design is totally modern, from the outside it does not look like a church. Its full name is Santuario San Judas Tadeo and it includes a seminary, a Catholic school and a parish social action area that provides medical services, among other tasks. The second thing we can see from the first photo is that it is on a main avenue, it is very complicated to take good pictures for an amateur like me, so excuse me that on this occasion I did not get a better capture to start the post.
Inside the temple I have had more luck in capturing good images. I have been going to this church for many years. Its interior design is different from the older cathedrals of Caracas, but you can breathe modern airs in its design. Its construction and inauguration date back to the 60's and 70's. The images of the saints on the walls and the Stations of the Cross combine perfectly with the earth colors and spaces of the temple. I feel that each image was made exclusively to be exhibited in the sanctuary, although I can't say for sure, but they all have the same design pattern. There is only one cross on the altar. It is not in the center, and there are no special chairs used by the priests, but two very large pews.
I need to clarify at this time something that confused me for many years. As I said above, the whole building is the San Judas Tadeo Sanctuary, but the church that I am showing you as such is called San Pio X Church. The fact is that the image of San Judas Tadeo that you can see in this picture above is one of the most venerated in Caracas and in fact in all Venezuela, it is mandatory that we all know the temple under the name of San Judas. On the 28th of every month the church is filled with parishioners who come to thank the favors granted, but never as on October 28th which is the official day of St. Jude Thaddeus, people from all over Venezuela come to the celebration of the mass and procession. In fact these are days that it is better to participate or stay at home, because the surrounding areas are completely closed. It is the only holy image that stands out from the rest of the temple design.
I took this picture above from a distance so you can see the magnitude of the gifts that believers give to St. Jude Thaddeus for favors performed. There are all kinds of acknowledgements, from medals to balls. I love that the church has dedicated a space to display these dedications that serve as an affirmation of the miracles performed by the saint in the eyes of the believers. In fact, I have the impression that the space has become too short and they will have to lengthen it or dedicate another one soon.
I want to close with this picture of the Blessed Sacrament, the most sacred place in every church because it is where the body of Christ rests. I took this photo on Good Friday, so the place is arranged with the motif of the death of Jesus and decorated for the enjoyment of those who visit the church with intentions to worship. This photo can also be seen in my last post dedicated to Holy Week. All these images were captured with my Tecno Pova II. I hope you liked the publication and that I have transmitted a little of my joy and passion for a place that is part of me...

_Undoubtedly it is a really beautiful sanctuary. In the main photograph you can directly appreciate that it is a modern design, because of the simple and straight lines, in short, a quite minimalist design and I think it is also reflected in its interior.
You know that this place where people usually take dedications to St. Jude, is something I have seen before in places like the Shrine of the Virgin of Coromoto (in Guanare), where they have allocated an entire floor (basement), to store these gifts and I also got to see it in the Shrine of the Virgen del Valle in Margarita, where they built another building specifically to store all the gifts and devotions they gave to the virgin.
I really liked the sobriety of this temple, it looks really beautiful and I hope to have the chance to visit it at some point.
Greetings friend! That's right. And precisely this says a lot about the Shrine and even about the Saint. There are many favors granted and it is nice to see the gratitude of the people materialized in this way, I feel it gives more cache to the temple. There are a variety of gifts, but all of them have a lot of value; as I say in the post, they even bring balls, but we are not talking about used balls, you can see that they are new, of quality and even signed, I don't know if by a famous person or simply the person who makes the gratitude. I know the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Coromoto, I saw it as a child and I hope to return someday, I also know in Trujillo the town of Jose Gregorio Hernandez, you can imagine how it is there this matter. My dear, it is always a pleasure to read you, I love you very much. A little digital hug for you...
I have been fascinated by the architectural features inside Catholic churches since I was a child. It was because when I entered a Christian church as a child, I was attracted by the various elements that I saw there. Through your content I was able to recover that old memory to some extent. Unfortunately, due to the bomb attacks on several churches in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday a few years ago, it is not possible to take pictures of the inside of a church. The reason is to ensure safety.
It makes me happy to read your comment and know that you appreciate the architectural wonders of the temples. On the other hand I am sorry for what you tell me about the attacks, I am glad that at least you can appreciate through this medium and I hope that life will allow you to admire again the wonders of modern design near you. I send you a hug!...
Hi Jesus!
Certainly the modern facade of this structure doesn't give the impression that it's a church. The interior of the temple is really beautiful and every detail well cared for.
I see that in Caracas there are many Catholic and other denominations religious structures that would be worth visiting and this is certainly one of them.
Very well done with your photos and your review, my friend.
Hi Rosana, I'm glad you liked it! Caracas really has a lot to offer, it is a marvel in architecture. Not only the catholic temples are beautiful, I have had the opportunity to sing in some incredible and spiritual places, like some Buddhist temples and every day I pass in front of the mezquita when I go to the, although I don't know it inside. Before I didn't have the spark to capture these images, but now with my new cell phone I am very motivated...
Undoubtedly it has a very different design from other temples, many details to appreciate and above all worthy of a place to worship the greatest in history.
Caracas has many beautiful churches and temples. Thank you for sharing a little piece with us.
I totally agree with you Dina. There is magic in Caracas and they love to keep what they have well taken care of. I am in a constant tourism of beautiful churches and sometimes I even have the opportunity to sing in them. Thanks for visiting my post dear...
Hi Omar!. Thanks again... I'm not a photographer, but I'm in love with Hive and try to give my best when I know something good is coming up to share. What is for sure is that I'm always looking to improve myself inspired by the platform. I already have microphone, computer and my new goal is a better cell phone for better photos and audios for videos on the street. I also like this community a lot, so there is a lot to offer here as well. What I need to do is to start training like you, but it's hard to get this belly down hehe. Happy day!...
Hi @jesuslnrs, you managed to take beautiful pictures, the design is beautiful and modern, I am struck by the detail of the wall above in the second photo, also the design of the door is very striking; the floor and benches combine perfectly.
Cheers!
A hug for you Belkis. Truly the color combination is beautiful and very striking. I also like that view from the altar in the second photo, in fact as in some temples up there at the end is where the musicians play, that seems very practical to me. For those of us who love church architecture it is quite nice to come across such modern designs like this one, which is out of the conventional...
It is a very beautiful church, with a facade very different from the traditional ones.
Hi friend! That's right. Since I discovered it a few years ago I noticed how different it was and over time I realized that it was also very special for the city. Thanks for visiting my post...

@jesuslnrs Excellent review of this sanctuary that is so iconic for Caraqueños. The pictures are excellent.
Grateful for the praise of my humble photographs. I do what I can with my tools to share good work.
