Odesa - "a pearl by the sea"/Одеса - "перлина біля моря" (EN/UA)

Hello everyone.
I haven't written to the Architecture and Design community for a long time. Now is such a period of time that it is practically impossible to travel due to problems with electricity and constant attacks by russians. Nevertheless, the need for beauty, aesthetics and new knowledge has not disappeared, fortunately. We still want to see beautiful things, so we use every opportunity for cultural recreation.

Давно я не писала в спільноту Архітектури та Дизайну. Зараз такий період часу, що подорожувати фактично неможливо через проблеми з електроенергетикою та постійними атаками росіян. Та все ж, потреба у красі, естетиці та нових знаннях не зникла, на щастя. Все ще хочеться бачити красиве, а тому ми використовуємо кожну можливість для культурного відпочинку.

Recently, I was sorting through photos on my Google Drive and came across memories from Odessa. Now this beautiful city, which I am sure you have heard, is dangerously close to the occupied territories and often suffers from rocket fire from russia. This summer, it was also not possible to visit the beaches, let alone swim in the sea, because there are drifting water mines. For these reasons, tourism in our "Pearl" is now almost stopped.
Nevertheless, no one canceled online tourism! I visited Odesa last year, then I did not know about the existence of Hive. And now, having this opportunity, I will share with you a little impressions of this beautiful city.

Нещодавно я розбирала фото на своєму гугл-диску і натрапила на спогади з Одеси. Зараз це прекрасне місто, про яке ви, я впевнена, чули знаходиться небезпечно близько від окупованих територій і часто страждає від ракетних обстрілів зі сторони росії. Цим літом також не можна було відвідувати пляжі, а тим більше купатися у морі, адже там дрифтують водні міни. З цих причин, туризм у нашій "Перлині" зараз майже припинено.
Тим не менш, ніхто не відміняв онлайн-туризм! Я відвідувала Одесу минулого року, тоді я ще не знала про існування Хайву. А зараз, маючи таку можливість, поділюся з вами трішки враженнями від цього прекрасного міста.

For me, Odesa is always associated with elegance, beauty, culture and a peculiar, elusive atmosphere of lightness and charm. Such an atmosphere arose as a result of a rich historical process. Count Richelieu (a relative of the same Cardinal Richelieu) is connected with the city, the movie "Battleship Potemkin" was shot here - one of the masterpieces of world cinematography (I think everyone has heard of the Potemki Stairs). And what is also important, when the socialist revolution came, the intellectuals of both Ukraine and the russian Empire came here in the hope of salvation from the soviet government. Therefore, this city is primarily a center of history and culture.

Для мене Одеса завжди асоціюється з елегантністю, красою, культурою та своєрідною, невловимою атмосферою легкості та шарму. Така атмосфера виникла внаслідок насиченого історичного процесу. З містом пов'язаний граф Рішельє (родич того самого кардинала Рішельє), тут знімався фільм "Броненосець Потьомкін" - один із шедеврів світового кінцематографу (думаю всі чули про Потьомківські сходи). Ну і що теж важливо, коли прийшла соціалістична революція, інетелегенція як України, так і російської імперії приїжджала сюди в надії на порятунок від радянської влади. Тому, це місто в першу чергу осередок історії та культури.

The city experienced its greatest prosperity in the 19th century, so the dominant part of the buildings was made in the eclectic style. The architectural buildings of this era are elegant and harmonious.

Найбільшого свого розквіту місто зазнало у 19 столітті, тому домінуюча частка будівель виконана саме у стилі еклектики. Архітектурні споруди цієї епохи витончені та гармонійні.

The first thing that comes to mind when talking about the Odessa environment is the courtyards. In the city estates of the nobility, stables and exits for staff were usually located here. However, look at how beautiful they are

Перше, що приходить на згадку, говорячи про одеський антураж - це дворики. У міських маєтках знаті зазвичай тут знаходились конюшні та виходи для персоналу. Та попри це, погляньте, які вони гарні.

These courtyards remind me of Italian ones. Maybe it's the warm climate and similar concepts, and maybe also because this particular estate with the presented courtyard was designed by the Italian Torricelli (I had to google his name, so link I leave it just in case).

Мені ці дворики нагадують італійські. Можливо, справа у теплому кліматі та схожих концепціях, а можливо ще й тому, що конкретно цей маєток з представленим двориком проєктував італієць Торрічеллі (його ім'я прийшлося загуглити, тому посиланнязалишаю на всякий випадок).

From the courtyards with their relaxed atmosphere, we smoothly move to the estate itself.

Від двориків з їх розслабленою атмосферою ми плавно переходимо до самого маєтку.

This is the House of Scientists or the Tolstoy Palace (if anything, this does not apply to the russian writer - Leo Tolstoy). Tolstoy was a philanthropist who during his lifetime did a lot for the development of the city and art. This beauty you see in the photo is the place where he lived.

Це Будинок вчених або ж палац Толстих (якщо що, це не стосується російського письменника - Льва Толстого). Толстий був меценатом, який за свого життя багато зробив для розвитку міста та мистецтва. Ось ця краса, яку ви бачите на фото - місце, де він жив.

The house was built in the 19th century, and fully complies with the canons of that style. But, unfortunately, not all the halls have remained as they were known by the owner. When the bolsheviks came, the Tolsty family was expelled, and the building itself was reclassified as a house of scientists.

Будинок був побудований у 19 столітті, і повністю відповідає канонам того стилю. Та, на превеликий жаль, не всі зали лишились в тому вигляді, якими їх знав власник. Коли прийшли більшовики, сім'ю Толстих вигнали, а саму будівлю перекваліфікували у дім вчених.

Specifically, this hall was not touched. She is as beautiful as she was a century ago. White walls that imitate marble with gold decoration create a perfect picture.

Конкретно цю залу не чіпали. Вона така ж гарна як і була століття тому. Білі стіни, які імітують мармур із золотим оздобленням створюють непервершену картинку.

Huge doors hanging above the fireplace visually increase the space and add elegance to the already incredible hall.

Величезні дзверкала, що висять над каміном візульно збільшують простір та додають витонченості і без того неймовірній залі.

The table and chairs are filled in the same colors as the room itself.
I can't help but say the same about the balconies surrounding the mirrors. They are very beautiful, I fell in love at first sight. This is how I imagine how the residents of that time went out in the morning to look at the streets of Odesa...

Столик і стульчики виповнені у тих же кольорах, що і сама кімната.
Не можу я не сказати і про балкони, що оточують дзеркала. Вони ну дуже гарні, я закохалась з першого погляду. Так і уявляю як тойдішні мешканці виходили вранці подивитися на Одеські вулиці...

And this is the window of one of the rooms. It is original, and that is why it seemed interesting to me. And the view of the building opposite is very beautiful.

А це вікно одієї з кімнат. Воно оригінальне, а тому і здалося мені цікавим. Та і вид на будівлю навпроти відкривається дуже гарним.

This is how the improvised tour of Odessa turned out. Unfortunately, the city is not what it used to be. This can be said about all cities of Ukraine. Each has wounds inflicted by the barbarism of our neighbors. But despite this, the cities with their architecture and atmosphere remain as beautiful.

Ось така імпровізована екскурсія Одесою вийшла. На жаль, місто вже не те що було раніше. Це можна сказати про всі міста України. Кожне на собі має рани, принесені варварством наших сусідів. Але не дивлячись на це, міста з їх архітектурою та атмосферою лишаються такими ж прекрасними.
