[ENG/ESP] An exhausting but very satisfying Monday.

I truly hope this fresh start brings calm, order, and a little breathing room for each of us. Hopefully today will be a bit easier and less hectic for us, because we were really exhausted by the end of yesterday. Our day started very early, almost with the first rays of sunlight, and ended quite late, when our bodies were screaming for rest.
Luckily, the weather was great. Yes, it was intensely hot—the kind of heat that only the island can offer—but we’re used to it by now. Here, the heat is almost a constant companion, so you learn to always go out with enough water to stay hydrated. Even so, the natural and urban landscapes made the journey less stifling. As I’ve mentioned before, this island always has something beautiful to offer: a clear sky, a mountain peeking out, a street full of life. All of that helps make the fatigue a little easier to bear.

De verdad deseo que este nuevo comienzo traiga calma, orden y un poquito de respiro para cada uno. Ojalá que el día de hoy sea más suave y menos agitado para nosotros, porque ayer terminamos realmente cansados. Nuestro día comenzó muy temprano, casi con el primer rayo de sol, y terminó bastante tarde, cuando ya el cuerpo pedía descanso a gritos.
Por suerte, el clima estuvo estupendo. Sí, hacía un calor intenso, de esos que solo la Isla sabe regalar, pero ya estamos acostumbrados. Aquí el calor es casi un compañero de vida, así que uno aprende a salir siempre con suficiente agua para mantenerse hidratado. Aun así, los paisajes naturales y urbanos hicieron que el recorrido fuera menos agobiante. Como les he comentado antes, esta Isla siempre tiene algo hermoso que ofrecer; un cielo despejado, una montaña que se asoma, una calle llena de vida. Todo eso ayuda a que el cansancio se lleve un poco mejor.
Our first major task of the day was to go to the Sunsol Unik Hotel to discuss a budget. We wanted to make sure both parties were satisfied, so we knew it wouldn’t be a quick meeting. When we arrived, we had to wait a while because the maintenance manager was busy with other tasks, and his presence was essential for the discussion. Finally, when everyone was gathered, we began reviewing each item on the quote. It was a long, detailed, almost meticulous process, but in the end we managed to reach an agreement. Of course, by the time we finished, it was already quite late—well past lunchtime.
Nuestra primera gran tarea del día fue ir al hotel Sunsol Unik para discutir un presupuesto. Queríamos asegurarnos de que ambas partes quedaran satisfechas, así que sabíamos que no sería una reunión rápida. Al llegar, tuvimos que esperar un rato porque el gerente de mantenimiento estaba ocupado en otras labores, y su presencia era fundamental para el debate. Finalmente, cuando todos estuvimos reunidos, comenzamos a revisar cada punto del presupuesto. Fue un proceso largo, detallado, casi minucioso, pero al final logramos llegar a un acuerdo. Eso sí, cuando terminamos ya era bastante tarde, incluso pasada la hora de almuerzo.
We still had two tasks left to complete, and we didn’t have time to go home. Since we thought it would be a short day, we hadn’t brought lunch with us, and at that point we couldn’t afford to make many stops. So we took off our work shirts, freshened up a bit, and headed straight to the Zoom office, where we had to pick up some packages.
Nos quedaban todavía dos tareas por cumplir y no teníamos tiempo de regresar a casa. Como pensábamos que el día sería ligero, no llevamos almuerzo con nosotros, y a esa hora ya no podíamos darnos el lujo de hacer muchas paradas. Así que nos quitamos la camisa de trabajo, nos refrescamos un poco y nos fuimos directo a la oficina de Zoom, donde teníamos que retirar unas encomiendas.
My husband was especially eager for this, because he’s fixing up the car and had ordered some parts online that it needed. He’d been looking forward to picking them up since early in the morning, but the meeting at the hotel ran longer than expected. Even so, when he finally had the packages in his hands, his face said it all; he was happy and satisfied, like a child with new toys.
Mi esposo estaba especialmente impaciente por eso, porque está arreglando el carrito y había comprado por internet algunos detalles que el carro necesitaba. Desde temprano tenía ganas de ir a buscarlos, pero la reunión en el hotel se extendió más de lo previsto. Aun así, cuando por fin tuvo las encomiendas en sus manos, su cara lo decía todo; estaba feliz, satisfecho, como un niño con juguetes nuevos.
After that, all that was left was to adjust the car’s brakes. It was already past 4:30, and we were worried about the time. We thought the shop might be closed, but when we arrived, we were in for a very pleasant surprise; the young man was sitting there, waiting for us. He told us he hadn’t closed because he knew we were coming—that we always keep our word. Hearing that made me incredibly happy, because I’ve always believed there’s nothing like keeping your word when you make a promise.
Después de eso, solo nos quedaba ajustar los frenos del carro. Ya eran más de las cuatro y treinta, y estábamos preocupados por la hora. Pensamos que quizás el taller estaría cerrado, pero al llegar nos llevamos una sorpresa muy bonita; el muchacho estaba sentado, esperándonos. Nos dijo que no había cerrado porque sabía que íbamos a venir, que siempre cumplimos cuando damos nuestra palabra. Escuchar eso me dio una alegría enorme, porque yo siempre he creído que no hay nada como quedar bien cuando uno promete algo.
They fixed the brakes, and they’re perfect now. We had no idea how bad they were, but now the car brakes just as it should. With everything taken care of, we headed home. And it’s funny—when you manage to finish everything on your to-do list, the fatigue feels less heavy, almost as if it’s fading away.

Arreglaron los frenos y quedaron perfectos. No teníamos idea de lo mal que estaban, pero ahora el carro frena como debe ser. Con todas las tareas cumplidas, emprendimos el camino a casa. Y es curioso; cuando uno logra terminar todo lo pendiente, el cansancio se siente menos pesado, casi como si se disipara.
