[ENG/ESP] A Sunday at work where exhaustion meets dedication
Greetings, dear friends. I hope your week is off to a good start and that each day brings a reason to move forward with serenity. My week continues to be quite busy, still at that intense pace that won’t let up until the desalination plant is fully operational and we can breathe a little easier. It’s been a long, demanding period full of challenges, but also of lessons and moments that remind us why we do what we do.
Although we’re still overcome with sadness for friends who are going through difficult times, we’re trying to stay strong. These are situations that take a toll on our spirits, make us reflect, and remind us just how fragile everything can be. However, what we need to do now is lend a hand at the relief centers so that the necessary aid reaches those in need. That is how we stand by them, how we make our presence felt, and how we contribute a small spark of hope. And to do that, we must keep moving forward, with our commitment intact and the determination to keep working.
As I’ve been telling you, we’ve now spent two weeks focusing exclusively on the plant. It’s been a huge effort; we’ve already finished five of the ten damaged filters, and to achieve this we’ve worked tirelessly, without a single day off. The exhaustion is in our bones, but there’s also that quiet satisfaction of knowing that every step forward brings us closer to our goal. The plan is for the plant to start up at least at half capacity this week, which will allow us to slow down a bit and regain our strength little by little.
This Sunday the weather was great. The vibrant sun lit up everything, and the landscapes of Margarita Island looked like something out of a postcard. Amid so much work, that visual respite is a gift. We took Simplicio Rodríguez Avenue, which isn’t the shortest route, but it is the most relaxing. It’s a route that clears your mind just by looking around—hills, open sky, warm colors.
Saludos queridos amigos, espero que su semana comience bien y que cada día traiga consigo un motivo para avanzar con serenidad. La mía continúa bastante atareada, todavía con ese ritmo intenso que no se detiene hasta que la planta desalinizadora arranque completamente y podamos respirar un poco más tranquilos. Ha sido un período largo, exigente y lleno de desafíos, pero también de aprendizajes y de momentos que nos recuerdan por qué hacemos lo que hacemos.
Aunque aún nos embarga la tristeza por amigos que están viviendo momentos difíciles, tratamos de mantenernos firmes. Son situaciones que golpean el ánimo, que nos hacen reflexionar y que nos recuerdan lo frágil que puede ser todo. Sin embargo, lo que nos toca ahora es dar nuestra colaboración en los puntos de apoyo para que les llegue la ayuda necesaria. Esa es la manera de acompañar, de estar presentes, de sumar un granito de esperanza. Y para poder hacer eso, tenemos que continuar hacia adelante, con el compromiso intacto y la voluntad de seguir trabajando.
Como les he venido contando, ya tenemos dos semanas enfocadas exclusivamente en la planta. Ha sido un esfuerzo enorme; ya estamos terminamos cinco de los diez filtros dañados, y para lograrlo hemos trabajado sin descanso, sin un solo día libre. El cansancio se siente en los huesos, pero también está esa satisfacción silenciosa de saber que cada avance nos acerca a la meta. La idea es que esta semana la planta arranque al menos a la mitad de su capacidad, lo que nos permitirá ir a un paso más pausado y recuperar nuestras fuerzas poco a poco.
Este domingo el clima estaba genial. El sol vibrante iluminaba todo y los paisajes de Isla Margarita parecían sacados de una postal. En medio de tanto trabajo, ese respiro visual es un regalo. Tomamos la avenida Simplicio Rodríguez, que no es el camino más corto, pero sí el más relajante. Es una ruta que despeja la mente con solo mirar alrededor; cerros, cielo abierto, colores cálidos.
Amid beautiful scenery and deep reflection, we arrived at Sunsol Ecoland to continue our work at the desalination plant. Upon entering, we noticed something that touched us deeply: some guests, in solidarity with those affected by the earthquake, had placed flowers before the Virgin of the Valley statue located in the hotel. It was a noble and simple gesture. They also left tips to be donated to the relief effort, demonstrating that even in difficult times, solidarity flourishes.
Entre paisajes y pensamientos llegamos a Sunsol Ecoland para continuar con nuestra labor en la planta desalinizadora. Al entrar, notamos algo que nos tocó profundamente: algunos huéspedes, en solidaridad con los afectados por el temblor, habían colocado flores a la Virgen del Valle que está en el hotel. Un gesto noble y sencillo. También dejaron propinas destinadas a la ayuda, demostrando que incluso en momentos difíciles la solidaridad florece.
We continued our work at the plant, where two of the filters were removed so they could be sealed the next day, since we had another one that was ready. In short, we’ll have three to seal, which will allow us to meet today’s schedule. The work is hard; it requires strength, precision, and a great deal of concentration, which makes it even more exhausting. But every piece that moves forward, every filter that’s completed, is one more step toward normalcy.
Continuamos nuestro trabajo en la planta, donde se llevaron dos de los filtros para poder cerrarlos al día siguiente, ya que teníamos otro más cargado. En resumen, tendremos tres por cerrar, lo que nos permitirá cumplir con lo previsto para este día. El trabajo es duro, requiere fuerza, precisión y mucha concentración, lo que lo hace aún más agotador. Pero cada pieza que avanza, cada filtro que se completa, es un paso más hacia la normalidad.
We finished as night was falling, feeling that heavy weariness but also the satisfaction of having accomplished what we set out to do. We called it a day, hoping that tomorrow would be another productive day and looking forward to the day when everything would soon be back to normal.
