A Pre - Autumn Walk

If you had asked me what the weather was like yesterday, I would have said sunny and very warm. Today, it's cold and misty. Typical british weather.

I parked up at the side of the road and folllowed the stone wall into the mist. The beech trees always look good this time of year, especially the leaves on the floor.

In the forest, there were a few different types of fungi growing on the trees. Despite the variety, most of the fungi were nothing special - just puff balls and polypores.

Puff balls are round, white fungi that release spores when they are squeezed. They are usually found growing on rotting wood or in grassy areas.

Polypores, on the other hand, are shelf-like fungi that grow on tree trunks.

While puff balls and polypores aren't very unusual, they play an important part of the forest ecosystem. Without them, the forest would be overrun with rotting plant matter, and nutrients would not be recycled properly. Everything has a place in nature.

I noticed the blackberry bushes that lined the way. They were still holding onto a few ripe blackberries, but they were definitely more sparse than they had been earlier in the season.

Looking over the moors, the heather had started to die off. The once lovely purple flowers were now fading. Apart from a few warm days, it can feel quite cool at times as autumn starts to creep in. On that note, it got a bit chilly, so I headed back to the car.

The images you show are very beautiful, especially the appearance of the heather flowers. Even though the flower has started to wither, its charm still radiates so beautifully.

The weather is very changeable, in recent years the seasons of the year have changed a lot, which does not surprise me the great change in temperature that you have had from one day to the next, dear friend @ellenripley

Thank you @jlufer. Just when you are putting your summer clothes away, out comes the sun, and vice versa. Many more fungi to come in autumn.
