Along with the increasingly massive development of settlements and the conversion of land into concrete areas today, the presence of dragonflies is slowly starting to become rare in places that were once bustling with the flapping of their wings, now often leaving only silence or just the buzzing of other insects that are more adaptive to pollution, and behind this longing, one thing that often escapes our awareness is that the disappearance of dragonflies from the surrounding environment is not just a loss of calming natural aesthetics but a serious warning signal.

On this occasion, I would like to share some images from my trip to the plantation this afternoon and saw several dragonflies flying around my plantation area. Taking these images inspired me to create a blog about dragonflies, which are considered bioindicators of environmental health.

This afternoon I went to a plantation where I saw several dragonflies flying around my area so that an initiative arose for me to create a blog about these insects. Previously, the sight of dragonflies darting above the surface of the pond or perching on the tops of plants like this was a common sight found in my yard or around my residence, but now along with the increasingly massive development of settlements and also the conversion of land into concrete areas, their presence is slowly starting to become rare.

Esta tarde fui a una plantación donde vi varias libélulas volando por mi zona, así que me surgió la iniciativa de crear un blog sobre estos insectos. Antes, ver libélulas volando sobre la superficie del estanque o posadas en las copas de las plantas como esta era algo común en mi jardín o alrededor de mi casa, pero ahora, con el desarrollo cada vez más masivo de asentamientos y la conversión de terrenos en zonas de hormigón, su presencia está empezando a ser poco común.

As I mentioned above, I took some time in the afternoon to go to the plantation to do my usual activities, considering that I often go to the plantation every day to see the conditions.

However, I also discovered something that led me to create a blog that I then shared with my beloved community. This is about one of the insects that was very common in my childhood, the dragonfly. These are some pictures I took when I first arrived in the plantation area. Even at that time, the moon was visible in such detail, even though this was the afternoon atmosphere, so for me this was a very beautiful moment to take some pictures.

Then one of the insects that has a reddish color caught my attention, the insect is a dragonfly, as a creature that has inhabited the earth long before humans existed, their existence is very dependent on water quality and the balance of the ecosystem that is maintained so that the decline in their population in an area is often considered as an illustration of a drastic change in the quality of natural resources that we use every day, where I personally found this dragonfly perched next to a swamp that has very abundant water in my plantation area

Entonces me llamó la atención uno de los insectos que tiene un color rojizo, el insecto es una libélula, como criatura que ha habitado la tierra mucho antes de que existieran los humanos, su existencia es muy dependiente de la calidad del agua y del equilibrio del ecosistema que se mantiene por lo que la disminución de su población en un área a menudo se considera como una ilustración de un cambio drástico en la calidad de los recursos naturales que utilizamos todos los días, donde personalmente encontré esta libélula posada junto a un pantano que tiene agua muy abundante en mi área de plantación.

The main reason dragonflies are often considered as bioindicators (signifiers of whether or not the condition of an environment is healthy) by various parties, especially by scientists, is because their life cycle is very dependent on water, in addition, dragonflies are often highlighted because of their extraordinary flying abilities to the point that they are nicknamed the Eagles of the insect world with flying speeds reaching 35 miles per hour and their ability to rotate 360 ​​degrees, also the existence of these insects is very necessary in the food chain and ecosystem, from that we can also say that dragonflies are on par with other sensitive organisms such as frogs, lichens, and beavers, from that we can also conclude that through their agile presence around water sources, dragonflies silently tell us that the environment is still healthy and of course still suitable for habitation, including by us humans

La razón principal por la que las libélulas son a menudo consideradas como bioindicadores (significantes de si la condición de un entorno es saludable o no) por varias partes, especialmente por los científicos, es porque su ciclo de vida depende mucho del agua, además, las libélulas a menudo se destacan por sus extraordinarias habilidades de vuelo hasta el punto de que se les apoda las Águilas del mundo de los insectos con velocidades de vuelo que alcanzan las 35 millas por hora y su capacidad de girar 360 grados, también la existencia de estos insectos es muy necesaria en la cadena alimentaria y el ecosistema, de eso también podemos decir que las libélulas están a la par con otros organismos sensibles como las ranas, los líquenes y los castores, de eso también podemos concluir que a través de su ágil presencia alrededor de las fuentes de agua, las libélulas nos dicen silenciosamente que el medio ambiente todavía está saludable y, por supuesto, todavía es adecuado para la habitación, incluso por nosotros los humanos.

Dragonflies are members of the Odonata order, which have been traversing the passage of time for 300 million years. This figure indirectly places them as rulers of the air long before dinosaurs set foot on earth. Therefore, they are often called the guardians of the waters of prehistoric times.

Furthermore, the presence of dragonflies also significantly impacts danger signals in the food chain and ecosystem, where they play a special role in detecting the accumulation of toxins. Because dragonflies are preyed upon by frogs and birds, the toxins absorbed by dragonflies from the water accumulate in the predators above them. A dragonfly may not die immediately from a small amount of contaminant, but a swift or hawk that eats thousands of these insects can accumulate a lethal dose of the poison. The current threat to dragonflies is very real and multidimensional. Habitat destruction due to agriculture, which I personally experience, and urban development, which causes the drying up of wetlands, automatically eliminating their habitats.

Therefore, on this occasion, I urge all my friends, especially those who work as farmers, to reduce activities that can deplete these insects' habitats, such as the widespread and massive use of pesticides, which has reduced their food sources.
