Some of the true locals of the Deep South, Cape Town, South Africa.
"Localism" has always been a worldwide "thing" of self claimed "ownership & power" of a beach/ reef sea etc. wave break residence attitude by humans since I entered my passion of surfing 4 decades ago during my half decade + of being around (stories for another day). Today I am trying to show some of the "true" locals of the deep south of the Cape Peninsula, South Africa where I live.
Over time housing, human invasion etc has forced the baboon troops of the Cape to change ways, move etc. but thankfully they still have large natural mountainous & bush type tracts in this area to survive in.
For this weekend experience I am going to to try show one of the reasons why I am passionate about "escaping" for my "as often as possible" (at least once a week) drives around the "sparsely" populated areas of the deep south (ocean, mountains & natural beauty for a future blog/s).....

The above images are of this particular troop leaving the "last" populated man area of the Cape area while heading south towards Cape Point
.
Above are a few photos of these guys closer to Cape Point and in my my view these are true locals that have "claim" to a "spot".
I hope you enjoyed my Sunday ramble as much as I enjoy them.

You're welcome @stevemuis! Have a nice day 😊👍🌹
I really liked your walk and those great friends who claim their spaces, it's good that there are still mountainous areas so they can enjoy freely with their family. Thank you for sharing your photos, they are very beautiful. Greetings and blessings.
Thanks a lot for that @floreudys79 and it is a total pleasure 😊
Baboons have lost a lot of territory to human development, hopefully both will learn to live in harmony, although humans will come off second best when troops go through foraging.
Lovely photography with these guys living free along the mountains of the Cape.

So true @joanstewart and although I suppose it is innevatible with humans around; it saddens me how the baboons territories have been forcibly shrunken.
Thanks :)
Home owners pay the price when the baboons have their way in their house !LOLZ
😂😂 Yip, big time and I have seen some horrific results in nearby areas here but the baboons had a good party each time so win, win for them 🙈😂
Little push back a good reminder we on their territory, old paths new houses collide!
For sure and if you build in their territory and leave a window open while out......logically they think it is an invite from the owner to themselves...🤷♂️😅
Sometimes it's not even the windows these big boys are clever, I wrote about how they now try get through thatched roofing up in the Drakensberg a couple of years ago. Caveman Shopper Showstopper
Tiles have since been laid above the thatch for both baboons and lightning strikes up there.
Yip, definately no lack of intelligence.....and love shown to their young amongst stern upbringing :)
Wildlife needs space and respect from humans sharing historical pathways they have used. Discipline within the ranks is extreme, no mercy shown when stepping out of line!
Totally agreed.
Great captures @stevemuis 😎
Fascinating to see them everywhere, sad the humans are taking over…
Ah, thanks so much @littlebee4 and yip, it is sad to see🥲
