My reunion with fishing over the weekend

It had been more than a year and a half since I had the courage to go fishing with my rod and tackle. I still can't explain it because it's an activity that I really like, but for one reason or another I had put it aside.

Yesterday after noon and without thinking twice I decided to break with the monotony of the last weekends and without thinking twice I went to the nearest fishing store and in a vending machine I bought two boxes of bait (sea worms) to be able to fish for a few hours.

When it came to recreational fishing, which is the type of license I have, I had the choice of going fishing on a beach or going, as on other occasions, to places a little more secluded from the bathers, such as the cliffs.

My choice was to go to the cliffs of the viewpoint of the Atalaya, about 5 kilometers from my house, where normally I had been good at fishing, although in order to get to the right place to fish you have to descend the slope of the cliff that has a little danger.

Getting to this cliff, a few years ago, was easy, since access with the car was allowed almost all the way down the slope. But nowadays, due to the fact that this cliff and its viewpoint had become very popular, the city council decided to cut the access by car and to place this metallic structure in the form of a frame.

After descending the slope of the cliff, I managed to get to the place I wanted to spend a few hours fishing, alone, alone with nature. It was amazing to regain this feeling and experience after so long without going fishing.

Once I settled in my fishing spot, I took out my fishing rod, put a suitable rig to catch rockfish and it didn't take me long to make my first catch. A catch of a size well below the allowed, so I carefully removed the fish from the hook and returned it to the sea. Who knows if in a few months I will catch it again but with an appropriate size?

A few minutes later, and after a few boring minutes because there were no bites on the hook, I felt a big tug. A great catch was coming and after fighting with the strength of the fish I was able to get this nice Sargo to my bag.

Very happy, for this reunion with the sea and fishing, continue fishing for 3 more hours with multiple catches of various species. Mainly of this orange fish called “Julia or Maiden” that has an exquisite taste once it is fried in olive oil.

At about 6 pm, and after about 4 hours of fishing, I took a break and ate a small ham sandwich that I had taken with me. I love the sandwich moment sitting on the rock.

Sitting and contemplating the sea and the cliffs in front of me. Enjoying the tranquility with the only sound of the sea and some seagulls fluttering near me.

After the snack, I continued my fishing day for another hour and in total I took 17 catches home. In other words, this Sunday I will have fresh fish for dinner.

Once the fishing day was over, I set out to pack up my things. Even the garbage I had generated.

I like to avoid leaving waste from bait boxes or wrappers from my snacks scattered in the environment. And I also took my water bottle with me. You don't know how many bottles are floating in the seas and if everyone would be aware there would be less plastics and microplastics in the sea that in the end ends up in us who are its great consumers.

The climb to the parking lot was complicated for me because of the slope. But as I climbed I took small breaks that allowed me to take pictures of the beautiful and wild nature.

With wonderful views from this charming cliff Mirador de la Atalaya.

Best regards.
