Monkey island in Can Gio district, Ho Chi Minh city.

I have been stayed in Ho Chi Minh city for over 10 years, it must be a long enough time for me to know everything in here. I have tried to travel in each district, from district 1st to district 12nd. There is only one district that I have never reached to, cause it is so far and I do not like the beach. It is Can Gio district.

Can Gio is located in the Southeast region, it is the only area that borders to the sea in Ho Chi Minh city. It took almost 1 hours to get Can Gio district and the island inside by bus, motorbike or car. In order to arrive Can Gio Island, one must take the Binh Khanh ferry with the cost of ticket is 6500 vnd for per vehicle.

Yesterday, I had a short journey to visit Can Gio Island with one of my good friend. We both have not visited this area yet in life, then we decided to spend a day discovering this area by motorbike. Actually, between a lot of good impressions, there is also a drawback that brings a big dreadful feeling to us during the journey. I will talk about it below.
We start our journey in 7:30 a.m from district 7th, we go along Huynh Tan Phat street and get in the Binh Khanh ferry before driving to Can Gio island.

As I have referred about this place, there are some interesting destination that they offer the visitors must come in the weekend. It includes Vam Sat Nature Reserve, monkey island, the 30/4 beach, the Fish Shrine and so on. Before picking the place to visit, we need to fill up our stomach first. Therefore, we keep going to the road that leads to the beach. At this moment, there is a local guy follows us on the road, ask us visit this place, that place a lot of time. Of course we are not comfortable with it. We deny respectfully but he keeps chasing and pulling us terribly. We are so scared that we have to stop to the market to avoid him for a while. There is nothing to say till we get out, the officious traffic wander makes a phone call to that guy to announce that we are ready moving. Oh no!!! We are quite shock, what the hell is that???

He drives and comes to meet us in less than 1 minute. We begin to feel frightened, then a threatening feeling arise strongly. We say nothing, try to wear the helmet quickly and get out of here without any hesitance.

To be honest, that is the worst experience I have been through in my life since many trips I got. I and my friend will not visit the beach in this area anymore.

We stop by a small roadside café to take a rest and rethink where we should visit before dark. There is not too much famous tourist spot to pick up. We bet to each other that maybe we will have fun in the Monkey island. And at last, we go ahead to Monkey Island where belongs to the Sac Forest military base.

The mangrove Sac forest was regconized as a world-class biological reserved by Unesco in 2000, this forest has become a true green lung for Ho Chi Minh city.
This destination also has become a lovely home for more than 2000 long-tailed monkeys.
We just pay 50.000vnd (~2$) for the ticket, no use electric tour bus. Before moving in, the guard notices and threats the tourist be aware with the monkey. They are gentle but very aggressive if they taste the scent of fruits and food, they can make an attact to you instantly.

We truly love The sac forest a lot. No more noise or people here, just only some tourists, trees and monkey. We loosen up our body and start make a walk along the road. The scenery is so beautiful in our eyes. I also have a chance to take some pictures of monkey’s family and the mangrove trees.

In the end, after spending 2 hours walking around the Sac forest, we completely visit all the spots inside, recharge our energy as well as pull ourselves together after a panic situation on the beach.

There is another destination that we cannot visit today, we promise we will come back again Can Gio island to visit Vam Sat park and monkey island again.
