Water mill in Rimtea village, Alba Iulia county, the oldest water mill in the Apuseni Mountains, Romania
Hello travelers
After a pretty busy, but also stressful week in terms of the sweltering temperatures outside, I finally managed to organize my activities and have time to come here among so many amazing posts with my blog.
At some point I'll come here with a travel blog about the village of Rimetea but until then I say let's enjoy together the only water mill here in the village, the water mill was built in 1752 by a local, it is absolutely fabulous that even today this water mill is still functional.
Attracted by the beauty, or rather the charm of the streets of this village, we didn't even realize how quickly we arrived at this water mill.
Here we were greeted by the owner of the watermill himself, paid an entrance fee of 20lei/4euro/person and then were free to explore the entire property.
I'm sorry I didn't have the idea to film the owner when he was telling us the story of this water mill, we were watching him like at the movies, the owner was a living encyclopedia, unfortunately there was a lot of information and I didn't retain it, especially since many of the names of the former owners were in Hungarian.
I entered this museum (and yes, I can call it a museum) through a handcrafted wooden gate with many details.
Since the very first steps we are greeted by many very old objects, I am absolutely fascinated, some of the objects exhibited here I have at home (I have them from my grandparents, who in turn have them from their parents, very old objects but which have withstood the passage of time), I even told the owner that this place is worth visiting but also worth publicizing.
I received the owner's reply, this water mill (like many other sights in the village of Rimetea) received the Europa Nostra award in 1999, and since then he started the process of maintaining the village exactly as it was years ago without being able to intervene on the architecture of the houses, but about this I will write in a special travel blog about this amazing village.
You can also buy products made here in the village, including corn flour or wheat flour.
My dears I hope you enjoy the foray back in time by visiting this water mill in the village of Rimetea, how fast time flies, it seems that it has flown and my blog today has come to an end...
THE END!

Greetings 🤗 very charming place. Being the first water mill, I think it is still quite well preserved. Imagining that was the one that supplied so many people. I find the objects curious, how left by different people. Good tour please be piece of Romania.
The water mill was very well preserved, even today it is still functional, and yes, it is a place steeped in history and through the care of the people we had the opportunity to see it.
I'm so glad you liked it and thank you for stopping by.
Nice! I've never been there, but I need to go. Like the many artifacts in there, that show the rich history of the place.
The village of Rimetea is an open-air museum and the water mill is amazing, there are many old objects and the mill is still functional.
