Paddling on Lake Tarnita in Cluj county, Romania

Hello travel lovers
I hope you are well wherever you are in the world.
Today as I wrote in the title we will take a walk together on the Tarnita Lake in Cluj county.
But let's see how we got here.
For some time we have been planning to visit the city of Cluj and its surroundings, but after a longer research we noticed that we need more time to see them all, which means staying there for a couple of days, but unfortunately time did not allow us to do so, although there are several beautiful lakes around Cluj, we decided to visit one of them, namely Lake Tarnita.
We had to drive about 300 km to Cluj, which would have taken us about four hours, Lake Tarnița being located about 30 km outside the city, we chose this lake because it is the largest in Cluj-Napoca with a length of about 8 km and a depth of 70 meters.
Being in the autumn season the route we took there was in some places quite spectacular, we even stopped in a few places to take some pictures.
Before reaching the lake area we discovered that this amazing construction has an arch-shaped dam at one end, looking for some information on the internet we found out that the dam has a height of 97 meters and is located on the Someșul Cald river, this dam attracted our attention a lot, despite the strong wind I managed to pick up the drone and take some pictures with it.
If somehow you are in the area of the dam on Lake Tarnita and you are in good physical shape I advise you to follow a trail through the forest to the viewpoint called ,,Piatra lui Lucaci,, the route is of medium to difficult has around 8km on which everyone can get a better time or more depending on the pace at which you climb, but once you get there the view is spectacular, the starting point of the climb to this viewpoint is right next to the dam, at the beginning you will find a barrier with a sign that warns you that you are not allowed to drive there, but instead on foot with your backpack on your back you can walk past the barrier without any problems, nobody will tell you anything, standing there and flying the drone I saw many tourists well equipped for a hike on the mountain.
What activities can we do in the lake area?
Being a reservoir you don't have too many activities, but coming here you can enjoy an oasis of peace and relaxation.
In order to make an inventory of what activities we can have here and what we will choose to do, we have covered the entire length of the lake, so we came to the conclusion that it would be good to swim a little on the lake.
Yes, as main activities here we can find kayaks,SUP (stand up paddle), boards, paddle boats, you can even fish, swim, all these activities you can do freely if you have your own boat and if not there are some pontoons where you can rent this equipment.
Before choosing what activity to do we visited Village by the Lake, from the reviews on the internet it seemed like a nice place, and yes, when we got there it proved to be so, after you enter through a big wooden gate and go down some stairs also made of wood you come across a large pier with a restaurant terrace and a few igloos (because it was autumn and outside temperatures are no longer so friendly you could stay inside in the heat), going down those stairs the view that opened on both sides was fantastic, we were really amazed.
We looked at about three locations where we could rent equipment and we chose one of them that we found more interesting, namely Kayak Tarnita, if it comes to prices they are the same at all three locations, namely for renting a kayak you have to pay 30ron/6euro/hour, for a SUP you have to pay 30ron/6euro/hour, for a Schiller water bike you have to pay 70ron/14euro/hour and for a hydrobike 50ron/10euro/hour (1/2people) and 60ron/12euro/hour (3/4people), the prices are acceptable especially as you benefit from some unique moments of relaxation, let's not forget that this location also has a regulation that must be respected.
Pedaling the hydrobike and looking around me it seemed as if time stopped in place, I had the feeling of liberation, moreover I passed by a pontoon where a tent was set up.
What's it like to sleep in a tent on a floating pontoon?
I did a little research and found out that here you can rent a floating pontoon of various sizes, which has on it a terrace with chairs, barbecue, a mini bar, and these are rented by the hour, these pontoons now when we visit Lake Tarnita are pulled ashore, they are functional only in the summer season.
On one of the shores of Lake Tarnița we saw some houses in the distance, obviously we cycled up close to the shore to get a closer look, there the owners built their houses on wooden poles, I think they are holiday homes powered by solar panels and the only access to them is on the lake, each building had a staircase going down to the lake.
Our time on the lake was an amazing experience that I recommend to you too, there are so many beautiful lakes around the world just waiting to be visited.
In conclusion, if you are from around Cluj or elsewhere in the world I recommend you to reserve a day for activities on Lake Tarnita, it is an experience not to be missed.
