Barcelona Diaries – Park Güell, lizards and mosaic magic

Coffee. Coffee. Coffee.
That’s literally my first thought every single morning. BUT this time…it was coffee in Barcelooonaaa baby!!! 💪

I thought I’d have plenty of time to chill and write an article, but NOPE. Plot twist! My friend? Up before me. Every. Single. Day.
What??? This girl who usually sleeps like a rock suddenly turns into an early bird? She had all the energy and was waking me up. Honestly, who is she?! But hey, let’s be real…who even sleeps on vacation? Not me! I can sleep when I’m back home in my cold Austrian cave. Right now, we got stuff to see! Let’s GO! So, let’s talk about day two: I walked out fully dressed like it’s winter—jacket, long pants, the whole package. Why? Because Austria is cold, okay?! But Barcelona? Oh boy, HOT like a toaster! People were looking at me like I lost a bet. I was sweating like crazy. Sympathy, please? Just a little?

IMG_5343.jpeg

Yes, it was necessary to go back to the apartment to change my clothes or I would die in the middle of Barcelona. 😉

We were still getting used to the metro...staring at maps like we’re trying to crack a code. Lost? Absolutely. Wrong trains? Of course. But who cares? We’re tourists.

IMG_5778.jpeg

That’s basically part of the job description. Next stop: Park Güell!

(Or as I woud name it: The Land of fairy tale vibes.
)
😉

Fun fact: Both of us went to tourism school, but guess who plans everything? Not me!

(Yeah, she gave me a simple task to find the next metro station, and guess what? We ended up on the wrong train...not once, but twice! So, no, she was the guide, and I talked a lot, as usual.) :))

So, I just follow. She’s the boss. I'm like: “Where we going? Cool, I’m in.

Ok, Park Güell

This park?! Straight out of a dream. Trees everywhere, weird and wonderful architecture, and views that make your jaw drop.
So here’s the deal: Gaudí, the genius behind it all, clearly hated straight lines. Everything's twisty, colorful, and totally magical. There’s a big sparkly lizard, benches that look like candy, and the whole place is like walking through someone’s wild imagination. Originally, it was meant to be a fancy neighborhood for rich people. But that flopped, and now it’s an amazing public park. Lucky us, huh?
(Amm...if you want to go inside the houses, book a tour. We did not, because we didn’t know... Oops.) Oh and also, I need to confess something... We eavesdropped a little to hear something we maybe didn't learn ourselves. Thank you, mister guide.

There were green parrots flying around like they owned the place, pigeons on snack patrol, and seagulls just vibing. One came up like, “Hey girl, got some bread for me?” I love them. There were musicians too...real chill vibes. I just sat, beer in hand, soaking in the music like, “Yes…this is my life now.”
And from the park, you can actually see La Sagrada Família. You can spot it from the plane too, but from here? It's just…wow.

Gaudí, you weird, brilliant legend. After all that walking and sun? HUNGRY. Like, "I-could-eat-a-chair" level hungry. And then…sunburn. Oh lord. I looked at her and she was red like a tomato. She looked at me? Same. We had sunscreen…we just…forgot it in the room. Classic. Mission “Buy Sunscreen ASAP” activated! Later we walked through the streets, just wandering like happy little tourists. Everything’s so pretty, I swear even the random sidewalks look fancy.

Then: beach time! Sounds perfect, right?
WRONG. It was so freaking windy at evening we couldn’t even get in the water. So, we made a bet...whoever doesn’t jump in buys the cocktails.
Guess what? Neither of us jumped. Sooo…we both bought cocktails. Win-win, honestly.

Day = Complete.
Now, let’s plan next day. 😉

I still can't believe I visited Spain and didn't stop in Barcelona. Pictures like this remind me that it is a promise to keep. Thank you so much for sharing, everything looks beautiful here, especially that pier...

Greetings from Spain @tinabrezpike
on behalf of the @hive-spain team! 👋

Welcome to the Mediterranean seaside!🏖
Badalona's tranquility these days is a very good choice to stroll quietly enjoying the Catalan beaches.

Thank goodness you changed your outfit, you guys could have had a really bad time, but from now on the sunscreen on hand. Here, these lands are to enjoy the sun at every moment and fill up with vitamin D. ☀️

The ingenious Gaudi and the streets of the city are excellent walks. Beautiful locations not to worry if you get lost looking for directions.

Enjoy your stay very much ;) That Sangría looks nice and refreshing!🍷😉

Btw, if you feel like keep writing about your visit and adding a Spanish translation, you could cross post it on Hive España 🇪🇸 community

Barcelona is truly beautiful, and Gaudí's architecture in this city is amazing. He is an iconic architect! I must also mention that Badalona is perfect if you're looking for some peace. Walking on the beach with not too many people around is so nice. And what's the deal with the locals? Everyone seems to be so active…people are running and exercising all around me! 😂 I have to admit, I felt a bit guilty for not being more active myself. If I lived here, I would need to work out every day! 😂 I would love to write in Spanish, but the only word I know is "gracias." 😂 Maybe in the future, when I finally start learning your language, I'll be able to express myself better. Thanks for stopping by! 💪😊

Hahaha it's easy wanting to stay active when you have such great weather and beautiful views so close by, it would be a shame to stay indoors and not enjoying it.

Hey thanks to you for putting in such a good word for Spain, we were very happy to read about your visit! (Anyway, the translator at DeepL is very good if you would like to use it one day).

Hugs!
