Parco della Rimembranza and the town hall of Zevio (VR-Italy)[EN]-[IT]

Zevio is a town of about 15,000 inhabitants and is located in Northern Italy, in the province of Verona. The most characteristic places in Zevio are the Parco della Rimembranza and the town hall, both of which are inside a circular water channel, just like the old castles of the Middle Ages.

Zevio è un paese di circa 15.000 abitanti e si trova nel Nord Italia, in provincia di Verona. I posti più caratteristici di Zevio sono il Parco della Rimembranza ed il suo comune, entrambi sono all’interno di un canale d'acqua circolare, proprio come i vecchi castelli del medioevo.
Storicamente il territorio di Zevio sembra che fosse già abitato in epoca preromana da popolazioni celtiche.

The Rimembranza Park is located in front of Piazza Santa Toscana and stands in front of the City Hall. The park is like a small island surrounded by a moat in which swans and turtles swim.
In the green area of the park there are very large trees of different species, including ginkgo biloba and cedars. Some of the trees in this park have very large trunks, I think they have been there for a very long time.
The arrangement of these large plants is such that during the summer period they manage to create shade over almost the entire park area.

Il Parco della Rimembranza si trova davanti a Piazza Santa Toscana e sorge davanti al Comune. Il parco è come se fosse una piccola isola circondata da un fossato in cui nuotano cigni e tartarughe.
Nell’area verde del parco ci sono alberi molto grandi di diverse specie, tra cui ginkgo biloba e cedri. Alcuni alberi di questo parco hanno dei fusti molto grandi, credo proprio che siano lì da tantissimo tempo.
La disposizione di queste grandi piante è tale che, durante il periodo estivo, riescono a creare ombra su quasi tutta l’area del parco.

The Town Hall is located in the northern part of the large circular moat. Although this building does not have the architectural structure of a castle, it is still called 'the castle'. This is because it is protected by a large moat of water just like a medieval castle.

Il Municipio si trova nella parte nord del grande fossato circolare. Questo edificio, pur non avendo la struttura architettonica di un castello, viene comunque chiamato “il castello”. Questo perché è protetto da un grande fossato d’acqua proprio come un castello medievale.

The municipal seat is Villa Sagramoso and this building is called 'The Castle'. To access the building, one must cross the access bridge over the moat that surrounds the structure. The so-called castle has been damaged several times throughout history and has undergone numerous transformations. The most important changes occurred in the second half of the 17th century. Until the early 1900s, there was an icehouse located in the vicinity of the villa.
In 1990, after a conservative restoration that gave the building solidity and new beauty, it was decided to move the municipal seat to this building.

La sede municipale è Villa Sagramoso e questo edificio viene chiamato "Il castello". Per accedere all’edificio bisogna attraversare il ponte d'accesso sul fossato che circonda la struttura. Il cosiddetto castello, nel corso della storia, è stato più volte danneggiato ed ha subito numerose trasformazioni. Le modifiche più importanti sono avvenute nella seconda metà del XVII secolo. Fino ai primi del 1900 esisteva una ghiacciaia posta in prossimità della villa.
Nel 1990, dopo un restauro conservativo che ha dato solidità e nuova bellezza all’edificio, si è deciso di spostare la sede municipale proprio in questo edificio.

In the fifth century Zevio played a defensive role for Verona, right where today there is Villa Sagramoso, long ago there was a fortress. Some say that the fact that today Villa Sagramoso is still called with the name of "the castle" derives precisely from the events of the fifth century.

Nel V secolo Zevio svolgeva un ruolo difensivo per Verona, proprio dove oggi c’è Villa Sagramoso, tempo fa c'era una fortezza. Alcuni dicono che il fatto che oggi Villa Sagramoso venga ancora chiamata con il nome de “il castello” deriva proprio dalle vicende del V secolo.

Two World War II cannons are positioned in the centre of the Parco della Rimembranza to commemorate one of the most tragic events of the 1900s.
The name of this type of cannon was Ordnance, QF 25 pdr Mk 2, and it was a cannon-howitzer. This type of cannon is among those most used by British artillery during the Second World War. In the guns the identification plates were still present.

Al centro del Parco della Rimembranza sono posizionati due cannoni della seconda guerra mondiale per ricordare uno degli eventi più tragici del 1900.
Il nome di questa tipologia di cannone era Ordnance, QF 25 pdr Mk 2, ed era un obice-cannone. Questa tipologia di cannone risulta tra quelle più usate dall’artiglieria britannica durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Nei cannoni erano presenti ancora le targhette identificative.

Also within the Rimembranza Park are children's games. A perfect place for children to play in the shade even in summer, thanks to the park's majestic trees that provide shade for the entire area.

Sempre all’interno del Parco della Rimembranza sono posizionati anche dei giochi per bambini. Un posto perfetto per i bimbi che anche d’estate possono giocare sotto l’ombra grazie ai maestosi alberi del parco che fanno ombra a tutta l’area.

Walking through the park, one can stop at various benches to read or rest for a moment. In one of the park's paths there is a marble bench that is a work of art.

Camminando all’interno del Parco ci si può fermare nelle varie panchine per leggere o riposare un attimo. In uno dei sentieri del parco è presente una panchina in marmo che è un’opera d’arte.

In the centre of the Memorial Park are posts with crosses bearing names. The names are those of people who fought and lost their lives during the Second World War. There is a very special feeling while walking near these symbols that protect the children's park, it is really an emotional message.

Al centro del Parco della Rimembranza ci sono dei paletti con delle croci che portano dei nomi. I nomi sono quelli delle persone che hanno combattuto e perso la vita durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Si prova una sensazione davvero particolare mentre si cammina vicino a questi simboli che proteggono il parco dei bambini, è davvero un messaggio emozionante.
